Snowflake Makguksu at Cheonggyesan Jigi: A Refreshing Summer Treat Near Cheonggyesan Mountain

Cheonggyesan Jigi Restaurant, a hidden gem near Cheonggyesan Mountain, is the perfect place to enjoy Snowflake Makguksu!
Whenever the hot summer arrives, I start craving Makguksu (buckwheat noodles). While Japanese soba is good too, there's something about a bowl of refreshing Makguksu that makes the heat feel so much more bearable.
I remember having delicious Makguksu somewhere in Sokcho in my twenties. But it seems that finding a truly great Makguksu restaurant that makes the noodles with buckwheat and has that slightly coarse texture isn't as easy as you might think.
Maybe it's because it's mainly a summer dish? Coincidentally, my parents came to visit, and since it was a hot day, we initially planned to have Chueotang (loach soup). However, the restaurant was too crowded, so we unexpectedly ended up at this Makguksu place.
Let's visit "Cheonggyesan Jigi." The ample parking space and eye-catching banners immediately caught my attention.
This restaurant also has a photo booth where you can take instant photos, which would be great for people visiting the mountain.

Looking at the menu, what stands out is that they offer a service with every buckwheat noodle meal ordered, both on weekdays and weekends.
Since we visited on the weekend, we received a complimentary platter of Two-Plus Hanwoo Eobokjaengban (Korean-style beef and vegetable hot pot).
We ordered three Snowflake Makguksu and a Seafood and Kimchi Pancake.
It seems they originally ran a Cheonggyesan Ggobchang (Beef Small Intestine) restaurant.
Simple side dishes were served, including seaweed stems and young radish kimchi.

As an appetizer before the meal, acorn jelly was served with spicy lettuce salad, which really enhanced the texture.
However, the slightly strong flavor of the lettuce salad was a bit of a disappointment, because I didn't expect the Makguksu to be so mild.
Here's the star of the show: Snowflake Makguksu. The ice piled up like shaved ice caught my curiosity.

It wasn't quite the style of Bibim Makguksu (spicy mixed noodles) I was expecting, so those who prefer Bibim Makguksu might find it a bit lacking. It's a dish to be enjoyed for its subtle flavor.
But the real highlight here is the complimentary Two-Plus Hanwoo. I think that alone makes a lasting impression on customers.

The Seafood and Kimchi Pancake was a bit pricey, but the generous amount of squid justified the cost.

They also sell draft beer in 300cc and 500cc sizes.
I didn't take a good picture, but I noticed the refrigerators were very prominent. Being located near Cheonggyesan Mountain, they had a wide variety of Makgeolli (Korean rice wine) and other drinks, which would entice any alcohol lover just by looking at them.

Personally, I prefer spicy Makguksu, so I was a little disappointed. But the impressive Two-Plus Hanwoo service made up for it, and since it's near my house, it's a great place to visit comfortably during the hot weather.
Especially after hiking, I think this Snowflake Makguksu would be incredibly refreshing and delicious. Give it a try if you have the chance! :)
