Review of Gamegol Son Wang Dumplings in Namdaemun Market

Namdaemun Market's Gamegol Son Wang Dumplings and Kalguksu
This is a self-funded review of the Namdaemun main branch.
Operating Hours
Monday - Saturday: 8:20 AM - 7:30 PM
Regular Closing: Every Sunday
I found that many places in Namdaemun Market are closed on Sundays, so I visited early on Saturday morning!
I’ll share my experience~~
I arrived really early thinking about breakfast, but there was already a long waiting line. It seems to be a popular spot!
Recently, it has been frequently mentioned as a dumpling spot by Chef Son Jong-won from the Black and White Chef show.
There is a notice posted at the entrance stating that Gamegol Son Wang Dumplings is also closed on Sundays. Please check to avoid any inconvenience.
The waiting line outside is for takeout, while I went straight in to dine at the restaurant.
As expected from a dumpling restaurant, the staff were diligently making dumplings. Their expertise was impressive!
I can't even imagine how many dumplings they make in a day.
You need to go up to the second floor for dining. There is a third floor, but I didn’t go up to check how it’s used.
I ordered 4 pieces of meat and kimchi dumplings for 5,500 won and hand-kneaded noodles for 7,000 won.
In today’s crazy inflation, the prices are really reasonable! Plus, it tastes great, so there’s no reason not to come!
Tip for waiting at Gamegol Son Wang Dumplings: If you dine in, you can prioritize takeout without waiting! I wanted to take out too, but I had a busy day ahead.
Soy sauce and kimchi are self-service.
There were about 8-9 tables on the second floor, but the tables are quite small. It was fine for 2 adults and 1 child, but it might be difficult for 3-4 adults to sit together. You might want to consider splitting up.
The kimchi and soy sauce for dumplings were well-fermented and paired nicely with the noodles!
Orders are taken by staff after you are seated. I noticed that you can specify the ratio of meat to kimchi dumplings, for example, 3 meat and 1 kimchi.
When I ordered 2 mixed dumplings, they served them in two plates with 2 meat and 2 kimchi each. Good job!
I usually don’t like thick dumpling skins, but Gamegol Son Wang Dumplings are different! The skin is thick yet chewy and delicious!
Both the meat and kimchi dumplings were tasty, but if I had to choose, I’d go for the kimchi dumplings as I generally prefer them.
The meat dumplings are moist and flavorful, and the kimchi dumplings were also delicious!
The flavor is perfect for kids too!
Look at these stuffed kimchi dumplings! I should have taken some to-go… I feel like I’ll visit again soon.
Finally, the long-awaited kalguksu arrived! The dumplings came out quickly, but the noodles took a bit longer to arrive.
The kalguksu comes with a basic seasoning mix. I requested one without seasoning for the child.
The cool and clean broth was the highlight of the hand-kneaded noodles!
Even without the seasoning, the child found it slightly spicy, which surprised me. A staff member explained that the broth itself might have some chili oil, which could cause that perception.
The noodles were chewy and delicious. I am definitely coming back to Gamegol Son Wang Dumplings in Namdaemun Market! Great taste, reasonable prices, and very friendly staff. Highly recommended!
