Pho Me Ly: A Vietnamese Culinary Gem in Yeonnam-dong!

Strolling through Yeonnam-dong on a cool day, I suddenly craved pho and stumbled upon Pho Me Ly! There are so many pho restaurants these days, right? But this place felt special. The reason? It's run by a Vietnamese daughter-in-law who's lived in Korea for 16 years and personally developed the menu to suit Korean palates!
I went with a friend who was relatively new to Vietnamese food.
They said, 'I don't usually like pho that much, but this is seriously delicious!'
First of all, the interior is clean and spacious, with a touch of Yeonnam-dong's unique vibe. The beautiful decor makes it perfect for gatherings with friends or a date.
My friend and I ordered the Yangji Daepa Pho (brisket and green onion pho), Bún chả (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork), and a Mixed Fried Spring Rolls platter, which are the representative dishes.
✔ Yangji Daepa Pho (Brisket and Green Onion Pho)
This was amazing... The broth was incredibly deep and rich, but with absolutely no unpleasant aftertaste and a clean flavor. The rich aroma from the brisket was completely infused into the broth, making me exclaim 'Wow...' as soon as I took a spoonful. And the green onions really cut through any potential richness and added such a lovely aroma. The slightly spicy flavor of the green onions subtly enhanced the broth's appeal. The noodles were also pleasantly chewy and not at all soggy, and the brisket was tender yet still had some bite. I almost finished the entire broth, seriously! Haha
✔ Bún chả (Vermicelli Noodles with Grilled Pork)
Bún chả is a dish I already love, but here, the sweet and sour sauce had a perfect balance. The pork also had a great smoky flavor that exploded with each bite. In particular, their bún chả is served with fresh noodles, which made the texture even chewier and more elastic, and the vegetables were fresh and well-presented, creating an overall harmonious dish. Dipping the pork and noodles thoroughly in the accompanying sauce is pure bliss.
✔ Mixed Fried Spring Rolls Platter
The platter includes a variety of spring rolls, making it fun to choose and eat. Shrimp spring rolls, pork spring rolls, vegetable spring rolls, etc. Each has a different flavor, so you don't get tired of eating them. The crispy texture is also fantastic, and the fillings are generous, so they're delicious on their own with a dipping sauce, or perfect to enjoy alongside the Bún chả. Even though they're fried, they're not at all greasy and have a clean taste, so they'd be perfect as a snack with drinks.
Frankly speaking, this is a place that Vietnamese food lovers will adore, and even those who haven't been fans of Vietnamese cuisine will love it. The owner said that she developed the recipes to suit Korean tastes, and that's exactly right. It maintains a local feel while still being familiar, creating a flavor that anyone can easily enjoy.
If you're looking for pho in Yeonnam-dong, I highly recommend this place. The price is reasonable, and the portions are generous, making it a great value. Next time, I want to try the Vietnamese-style curry and Banh Mi! You can feel the care that goes into each dish, so if you want to eat truly delicious Vietnamese food, be sure to visit!
