During my summer trip to Pyeongchang with my mom, we visited Odaesan Mountain's Woljeongsa Temple and even spent a night at the Ombu Meditation Village.

Of course, no trip is complete without exploring local 맛집 (delicious restaurants)! Around lunchtime, we searched for a famous restaurant near Woljeongsa Temple and stumbled upon 'Odaesan Gamasot Restaurant'.

From the entrance, it was clear this place was something special. It was covered in Blue Ribbon stickers, a sure sign that this renowned restaurant had a reason to be famous.

The parking lot was quite spacious, even accommodating tour buses. Inside, it was bustling with group diners.

Despite the crowd, the turnover was fast, and the staff were efficient and friendly. It made for a pleasant dining experience during our trip.

I visited Odaesan Gamasot Restaurant, located right in front of the parking lot in an area with both a cafe and a restaurant. I was looking forward to the food because of all of the Blue Ribbons attached. Apparently, it has been open for over 20 years.

The main set menus are Hwangtae-gui (Grilled Dried Pollack) and Sanchae Jeongshik (Wild Vegetable Set). They also have a variety of meal options, including Hwangtae Haejangguk (Dried Pollack Hangover Soup), Dolsot Bibimbap (Stone Pot Mixed Rice), and Gondre Dolsot Bibimbap (Thistle Stone Pot Mixed Rice). Dishes like Dakdoritang (Braised Spicy Chicken), Bulgogi (Marinated Beef), Deodeok-gui (Grilled Codonopsis lanceolata), and Gamja-jeon (Potato Pancake) are perfect for enjoying with drinks after a hike, making it a great place for groups.

We ordered the Hwangtae-gui set meal!

I've always loved grilled dried pollack with spicy sauce, so I was thrilled to finally taste authentic Hwangtae-gui in front of Odaesan Woljeongsa Temple. Soon after we ordered, the side dishes started to arrive one by one.

Even for just two people, the table was filled with a generous spread of wild greens, along with sides of bulgogi, potato pancakes, Doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), acorn jelly salad, Deodeok muchim(Codonopsis lanceolata salad), grilled yellow croaker, and of course, the main dish: Hwangtae-gui! Ordering the Hwangtae-gui set felt like we had a king's feast!

There were almost 13 different types of greens! Despite looking similar, each had a distinct flavor and aroma. They were delicious on their own or even better with rice. I thought that it would taste good as bibimbap. It was a day that I ate vegetables to my heart's content.

The Doenjang Jjigae had that deep, rustic flavor that is characteristic of country-style soybean paste stew, which I found really refreshing.

I couldn't skip the potato pancake. It had a wonderfully crispy exterior and a chewy interior. It was delicious on its own, but even better when paired with the pickled chili that came with it, the spiciness enhanced the flavor of the pancake. This combination is a real delicacy that you can only experience at the table.

Of course, I had to mention the Bulgogi and Grilled Yellow Croaker. The Bulgogi was perfectly seasoned and tender. The Yellow Croaker was salty and savory, perfect with rice.

Happy Time

The Hwangtae-gui at Odaesan wasn't just a delicious meal, but a special taste only found on vacation. Maybe it was the fresh mountain air, but the unique savory aroma of the Hwangtae seemed even more profound.

The outside was crispy while the inside was moist, a texture that melted softly in my mouth. The sweet and spicy sauce permeated the dried pollack, and when eaten with a chopstick full of wild greens, I really felt like I was getting a taste of Odaesan.

Bright Future

Eating it with rice washed away all the fatigue from traveling. My mom and I were amazed and called it a rice thief! We couldn't stop eating. Haha!

If you want to eat proper meal near Odaesan Woljeongsa Temple,

Highly recommend Hwangtae-gui Jeongshik at Odaesan Gamasot Restaurant! ????

With generous side dishes, neat wild greens, and crispy, moist Hwangtae-gui…

It was the most memorable meal of our trip with my mom.

I want to visit again next time I come to Odaesan. ????✨
