Nozomi: A Delightful Japanese Course Meal Experience in Dongtan
90-7, Bansong-dong, Nojak-ro 195, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do

Recently, I had a memorable experience at Nozomi, a Japanese restaurant I visited with a close friend as an alternative to a Korean restaurant in Dongtan. I'm writing this review to share my experience of enjoying a diverse Japanese course meal, including assorted sashimi, at a reasonable price.
1. Location & Parking
Nozomi, which I visited for the second time (the first was two weeks prior), is located in the heart of the Dongtan Bukgwangjang commercial area. After parking, you'll find the restaurant entrance on the 3rd floor of the building.
Address: 3rd floor, 90-7, Bansong-dong, Nojak-ro 195, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do
Operating Hours: Daily 11:00 - 22:00 (Break time: 14:30 - 16:30)
While 3 hours of free parking is available in the underground parking lot, it's a mechanical parking system, so I opted for the public parking lot. It offered a generous 1 hour and 30 minutes of free parking.
The interior consists entirely of private rooms, allowing for intimate dining regardless of the number of people. The ability to enjoy a private meal without being disturbed by other guests is a significant advantage.
While my recent visit to a Korean restaurant in Dongtan was also pleasant, Nozomi Japanese restaurant left a deeper impression. This is likely due to the more satisfying atmosphere and taste.
They even have a group seating structure with sliding doors that can be opened. I thought it would be perfect for company dinners or gatherings.
I sat down at the table and began to browse the menu. From hearty stone pot rice meals to sashimi courses, the selection was quite diverse.
2. Set Course (35,000 KRW)
We decided to order the recently renewed set course, and soon a neatly arranged table setting was presented.
The first part of the course consists mainly of cold seafood. The basic salad had a crisp texture, and I liked that it was served individually.
The porridge was perfect for gently filling an empty stomach. I felt that the Korean food quality was comparable to that of a Korean restaurant in Dongtan.
3. Side Dishes (Tsukidashi)
Soon after, I tried a variety of side dishes. The battered and pan-fried pollock was moist and tender, with almost no fishy taste, making it a personal favorite.
I was able to realize the true value of fresh seafood from the assorted seafood platter. The plump shrimp in soy sauce made me smile.
The jellyfish salad was rich in gelatin, boasting a uniquely crunchy and chewy texture. The salmon was undoubtedly excellent.
The beautiful side dishes were eye-catching. The different colors and shapes were truly impressive.
Among them, the Japanese-style pickled eggplant (Tsukemono) left a deep impression. The salty and savory flavor kept me reaching for it.
Meanwhile, the boiled octopus was the ultimate in tender texture. Dipping it in sesame oil seemed to enhance its unique flavor even more.
4. Premium Sashimi
The sashimi that was served that day showcased the qualities of a main dish. Unlike at a Korean restaurant in Dongtan, I gazed at it as if I were viewing a work of art.
The reddish tuna sashimi fully conveyed its unique savory and rich flavor. At the same time, the soft texture was truly heavenly.
The sea bream sashimi's charming point was the 'matsukawa' technique, where the skin is lightly seared. By enhancing the flavor and texture of the skin, the flavor was much more pronounced.
The salmon had an impressive melt-in-your-mouth texture. The subtle sweetness naturally brought a smile to my face.
You can enjoy the fresh sashimi in a variety of ways by using gochujang (Korean chili paste), soy sauce, or cabbage, as I did.
I was able to continue the pleasant time with sake that matched the high-quality sashimi. Gradually, the memory of the Korean restaurant in Dongtan faded away.
Soon after, warm dishes were served in the second part of the course. The Japanese tempura had a perfect crispy-on-the-outside, moist-on-the-inside texture.
The well-stir-fried udon noodles were a delicacy, with the elasticity of the noodles fully conveyed. The smoky flavor was more addictive than I expected.
In addition, stone pot rice was also provided, making it as good as any Korean restaurant in Dongtan. It contained lotus root and pumpkin, giving it a healthy taste.
The miso stew that went well with it was also of exceptional quality. The aroma of the sea and the savory taste of the sand shrimp captivated my taste buds.
5. Overall Review of Nozomi
The plum tea served as dessert after the satisfying meal was a truly smooth ending. I highly recommend visiting this Japanese restaurant, where you can enjoy a high-quality sashimi course at a reasonable price.
