Midoin Hongdae: A Japanese Home-Style Dining Experience That Delights!

After a long time craving Japanese home-style cuisine, I visited Midoin in Hongdae. 😊
With rising prices, "value for money" is a major concern when dining out these days, right?
But this place definitely satisfies!
The name Midoin (味道人) means 'people who seek flavor,' and it truly lived up to its name as a place where you can properly enjoy a variety of flavors.
Located in a quiet but charming alley between Hongdae and Hapjeong stations, it's perfect for a date, with a cozy atmosphere.
It deserves to be called a Hongdae restaurant with great atmosphere and value for money! 😊
Appearance
1. First Impression
Even on a weekday evening, the warm lights welcomed me from the outside.

I made a reservation, and it was a good thing I did.
Waiting in line after work would have been exhausting!😅
2. Signage
The phrase “Home-style Steak Restaurant” on the sign gave me confidence.
The gold sign and Chinese characters had a subtly retro vibe!~
There was a best-menu board next to the main entrance that naturally caught my eye.
After much deliberation, I chose the Flank Steak Triple!
Meat is always the best choice for the main dish, haha.

3. Interior Atmosphere
Inside, it was already full of customers.
It's definitely a Hongdae date hotspot!
The atmosphere was both calm and lively, making it a great place for dates and hanging out with friends.

Each table had a mini kiosk where you could order directly.
It was convenient and trendy.

The first thing that came out was the watermelon juice…
It was literally just watermelon itself! 🍉
These days, many juices have fake fruit flavoring, but this was the real deal!
My mood instantly lifted after the first sip.
7. Basic Side Dishes
Simple side dishes like pickled radish and seaweed.
I liked that they didn’t interfere with the main dishes.
The cleanliness is a plus!
8. Miso Soup
Miso soup with plenty of tofu.
The taste was comforting.
Perfect as a pre-meal starter.

Side Dishes
9. Midoin Scotch Egg
I was amazed here!
Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside.
Soft-boiled yolk with fried breading.
And a refreshing sauce…
This is definitely Midoin's signature dish.
I will order it again if I revisit!
10. Glutinous Rice Cheese Balls
I love cheese balls.
These were really chewy.
Crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside.
They were really delicious, and the flavor was even better when eaten with the sauce next to them. 🙂
11. Marinated Tomato Salad

I thought it would be a light salad.
But it was quite substantial because it contained meat.
Especially, the cherry tomatoes were marinated, giving them a sweet, dried-persimmon-like taste!
It was amazing.

Eating a bowl of it chilled me down.
It would be especially good in the summer!
But it's also good to eat now! haha
I was satisfied because the price was good.

The presentation was simple, but.

The chicken had the perfect amount of seasoning.
And because it was fried crispy.
It was a great match with the egg rice.
The soy sauce was subtly attractive, so I kept reaching for my spoon.

The visual with mashed potatoes and garlic chips on top of the meat was truly art.
I was excited even before eating it.

It was slightly sweet and soft.
It really stimulated my appetite.
Also, I liked that the steak sauce and egg came out together.
So I could mix them as I like.
I felt their thoughtful consideration.

The juices burst out.
And the more I chewed, the more savory the taste spread.
I was really happy.
I thought, “Ah, this is why people come to Midoin.”
This is definitely a Hongdae restaurant with great value for money.
And a great Hongdae date spot.
Overall Review
I was honestly surprised at this quality for this price in Hongdae.
Thanks to the varied menu.
There is a great combination of foods that can’t fail, no matter who you go with!
It was a space that was suitable for dates.
As well as gatherings with friends, family meals, and even dining alone.
Thanks to the clean interior.
The atmosphere was good.

Above all, I was satisfied because each dish was carefully prepared.
I highly recommend it to those who are “looking for a place with good value for money and a good atmosphere.” 👍
