Lizard Restaurant: A Mangwon-dong Curry Gem That Converted Me!

If you ask me what my favorite neighborhood is, it's Mangwon-dong without a doubt!

I loved Mangwon-dong so much that I worked nearby for two years and even lived in a shared house for six months! (Though, secretly, I didn't go there as often once I lived there - it's a secret!)

"To survive is to be strong." Lizard Restaurant opened in 2016 and has been a mainstay in Mangwon-dong for an impressive 9 years.

Despite this, I had some preconceived notions about homemade curry, so this was my first visit.

Homemade curry?

I always thought it would taste similar everywhere because of the strong turmeric flavor. I thought it wasn't worth paying for.

But Lizard Restaurant completely changed my mind! Let me introduce it to you. It's located at 75, Huiujeong-ro 20-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the first floor.

It's a 10-minute walk from Mangwon Station. It's also close to Mangwon Market, Tokyo Bingsu, and Coffee Shop Tokyo.

Personally, I really love the course of restaurant - cafe - accessory shop - Mangwon Market - Hangang Park ^.^

Closed every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Open Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday | 12:00 PM ~ 8:30 PM

(Last order 7:30 PM)

Mangwon-dong often has many places closed on Mondays, so finding a place open on Monday is a real treasure.

If you're looking for a place to eat on Monday, this is the place for you!

Whether you go during the day or in the evening, the restaurant has 3 tables for two, one table for four, and a bar-style seating (for two). It's a small and comfortable restaurant!

It's also great for dining solo! (I've never had to wait during my 3 visits.)

The reason I love Mangwon-dong is that hidden in every alley are small shops with their own unique identities.

I was completely absorbed in Mangwon-dong because of the fun of discovering these shops. I think I found Lizard Restaurant way too late ㅠㅠ

After discovering it, I wanted to eat there every weekend, but I've only been able to go 3 times in a month.

Menu:

1. Squid Body with Homemade Curry: ₩14,000

2. Grilled Shrimp with Homemade Curry: ₩13,000

3. Grilled Beef with Homemade Curry: ₩13,500

4. Tuna Poke: ₩13,500

5. Grilled Squid Tentacles with Homemade Curry: ₩13,000

I've tried all the curry dishes here except for the Tuna Poke!

When the menu is about to come out, they give you lettuce salad and cabbage side dish - it's so savory because of the peanut dressing!

And, if you have nut allergies, be careful because all curry menus contain cashews ㅠ,ㅠ

Grilled Beef with Homemade Curry ₩13,500

I think Grilled Beef with Homemade Curry is the most foolproof menu item at Lizard Restaurant!

In fact, 2 out of 3 of my friends who went with me chose this menu!

If you ask me what topping goes best with curry, I think it's grilled beef!

Lizard Restaurant's curry base has an explosion of umami, rather than a simple taste.

I felt that the beef best supported the curry when eating the curry as the main dish ✨️

Rice and curry refills are available.

Those floating things in the curry are cashews! It's really generous...the curry is maximized with savoryness

And if you take rice and curry, add beef, vegetables + a pepper, it's really;;;;;;;;;;; delicious. There is nothing to say other than delicious.

Butter Grilled Squid with Homemade Curry Squid Tentacles ₩13,000 / Body ₩14,000

Besides Grilled Beef with Homemade Curry! A little more! If you want to eat a menu unique to Lizard Restaurant?

I recommend the Buttered Body/Leg Grilled Squid with Homemade Curry.

What I felt while eating Lizard Restaurant curry was that the food was delicate.

The grilled squid is not just a topping grilled in butter, but rather like a side dish..?

The reason is... Squid is really a lot.

This is because there is a separate dark red sauce on top of the grilled squid! Because of this secret sauce, the squid is delicious even when eaten alone, and it is delicious in combination with rice and curry, it just ends great, yeah..

To eat Lizard Restaurant curry deliciously, don't mix the curry, eat it spoonful by spoonful!

Grilled Shrimp with Homemade Curry ₩13,000

Lizard Restaurant's curry is divided into two flavors.

Curry with a deep sweetness of 90% onion moisture

Basic onion base - beef, squid Onion + carrot + tomato base - shrimp

In other words, if you want to say that you have eaten Lizard Restaurant's curry, you have to try the shrimp curry.

When I first visited Lizard Restaurant, the restaurant smelled so unbelievably delicious.

When you eat the curry, that unbelievably scent is transmitted to the taste...; The basic curry with an onion base is delicious, but how delicious it would be with the flavor of carrots and tomatoes added..

Do you like Thai Poo Pad Pong Curry!

I really like it in the order of Thai > Indian > Japanese (sorry Korean)

Lizard Restaurant curry also tastes like Poo Pad Pong curry..

Maybe it's because of the spices? (I don't know because it's a secret) If you don't like the taste of spices, try the basic onion-based curry.

The dish has an exotic taste that is- coriander would be delicious to add..

I'm going to pack it next time and eat it with coriander!

I ended up recommending all the menus without realizing it heh.

But the charms are different ㅠ

Eat a refill of curry!

When ordering one menu per person, you can refill rice and curry~

One bowl, half bowl, 1/4 bowl

It's so good that you can refill as much as you want.

The owner is also really friendly, so be sure to go!

I haven't felt happy eating food recently- Lizard Restaurant curry has such a meticulous taste, I was so happy because it felt like it was the first time in a long time that I've had such food ????
