Located near Dongmun Market, Kalchi House is also close to Jeju Airport. There's a dedicated parking lot next door, making it convenient to travel by car.
The interior is larger than it appears from the outside, with enough space to accommodate large groups. Despite specializing in fish dishes, the restaurant is clean and pleasant, with no fishy odors.
Baby chairs are available, making it a great option for families with young children. The restaurant clearly considered the comfort of families dining with children.
Clean aprons are provided at each seat. They are made of cloth rather than disposable, making them more resistant to stains.
The signature menu item is the Kalchi House Set, which includes braised cutlassfish near Jeju Airport. It's an appealing option that allows you to enjoy various Jeju-style dishes at a reasonable price. I could see why it's popular with both tourists and locals.
1. Reasonable Set Menu: Kalchi House Set
The Kalchi House Set features a main dish and a variety of neatly arranged side dishes. The generous portions and appealing presentation immediately caught my eye.
2. Unusually Large Grilled Whole Cutlassfish
The grilled whole cutlassfish served was mega-sized. The firm flesh appeared moist and not dried out.
The cutlassfish was grilled to remove excess oil. Only the savory and mild flavors remained, without any greasiness.
The grilled cutlassfish was seasoned, making it a perfect accompaniment to rice. The combination of sweet white rice and flaky cutlassfish was fantastic.
3. Boneless Braised Cutlassfish
The boneless braised cutlassfish was visually appealing with its glossy sauce. The spicy-sweet aroma was so enticing that my sense of smell reacted first.
The boneless cutlassfish felt even more tender without the bones. It's prepared by hand, making it easy for anyone to enjoy without worrying about small bones.
The salty and spicy sauce paired well with rice. Because it was boneless, I could put it on top of rice and eat it like a덮밥덮밥 (rice bowl dish). This braised cutlassfish near Jeju Airport was truly amazing.
The radish had absorbed the sauce completely, resulting in a deep flavor. It was cooked until tender, making it easy to eat with a spoon.
4. Must-Order Additional Grilled Fish
After quickly finishing the whole grilled cutlassfish, I ordered additional sliced grilled cutlassfish. I liked that the sizes were consistent, and it was easy to take and eat one piece at a time.
The texture was slightly firmer than the whole grilled cutlassfish. It was fun to compare and contrast the different charms of each.
The grilled tilefish (okdom) was fried whole. I had only tried the semi-dried version before, but the tenderness of the flesh was definitely different.
Even after eating several fish dishes, including the braised cutlassfish near Jeju Airport, there was no fishy taste. The freshness of each ingredient was evident, so I could enjoy the meal with confidence.
5. A Variety of Side Dishes
The cuttlefish buckwheat noodles were perfect for refreshing the palate during the meal. The chewy cuttlefish and cool buckwheat noodles created a refreshing flavor.
The spicy and tangy sauce was evenly distributed throughout the buckwheat noodles. The chewy texture of the cuttlefish prevented it from becoming monotonous.
The restaurant, known for its braised cutlassfish near Jeju Airport, even offered a meat dish. The savory soy sauce seasoning and sweet meat aroma stimulated my appetite. The use of black pork resulted in a tender texture.
The cutlassfish soup, perfect for the current weather, was served in a large earthenware pot. The broth was rich and refreshing, not bland. The clean aftertaste, without any artificial seasoning flavors, was impressive.
The soup also contained boneless cutlassfish. It was perfect for pouring over rice and eating like a soup and rice.
The marinated raw crab (hwanggejang), which was one of the best I've ever had, was full of meat. It wasn't too salty, and the addition of fruity sweetness created an exceptional umami flavor.
Gargle was provided after the meal, which was a nice touch. Thanks to the thoughtful owner, I was able to finish my meal feeling refreshed.
I even received tangerine chocolate on the way out. It felt like a gift, as they gave it to you just for writing a simple receipt review.
It was hard to pick a favorite dish because everything was delicious at this braised cutlassfish restaurant near Jeju Airport. I've decided that every trip to Jeju will start at Kalchi House. If you're looking for a set menu with a satisfying selection, be sure to visit.
