Exploring Ulsan Grand Park with a Baby

When I ponder where to go in Ulsan with my baby, I often find myself heading to Ulsan Grand Park without much thought.
This time, rather than just a simple walk, I focused on the ecological center and would like to share my experience.
Baby Rest Area & Diaper Changing Station (Important Points)
✔ Located near the main entrance of Ulsan Grand Park
✔ Equipped with a diaper changing station
✔ Space available for breastfeeding
As soon as you enter through the main gate, you will see it. If you plan to walk to the south gate, it's a good idea to check on the baby's condition at the rest area first.
I walked from the main entrance to the south gate, and here are my observations:
✔ The path is well maintained
✔ Stroller-friendly
✔ However, it’s farther than expected.
If your baby refuses to sit in the stroller, it can be quite challenging. I recommend driving to the south gate instead.
Even with the stroller, I found the walk to the south gate quite exhausting.
Basic Information about the Ecological Center
✔ Closed every Monday
✔ Admission for adults is 2,000 won
✔ Free for children under 36 months
How to Turn the Ecological Center into a 'Playground'
Just observing can get boring quickly. Try these activities:
✔ 1. Color Finding Game
"Can we find a red butterfly?" "How about a yellow butterfly?"
✔ 2. Wing Imitation
"Shall we wave our arms like a butterfly?" "Can we make a butterfly with our hands?"
✔ 3. Comparison Game
"Let’s find the smallest (largest) butterfly."
As soon as you step inside, it feels like you've entered a different space.
"The air feels different."
✔ Humidity + Plants
✔ The air feels fresh
Scientifically, this is often described as experiencing negative ions, but it’s really the comfort provided by plants and humidity.
On days with high fine dust levels, it’s really nice to come inside. I think I should come back on a headache-inducing day.
When I visited on a sunny day, the colors of the plants were vibrant, and the photos turned out beautifully. It also provided visual stimulation for the kids, making it feel like being abroad.
After passing the botanical garden, the atmosphere changes dramatically.
✔ It gets darker
✔ It becomes quiet
✔ The movements of the creatures slow down
Babies don’t seem to find it scary, perhaps because they don’t understand what it is. However, to avoid stressing the animals, children should not get too close to the glass cases.
You can see everything in the reptile center in about 30 to 40 minutes. I recommend looking at a reptile book at home before visiting for better learning.
Seeing such a large snake in person was quite chilling. If you encounter a snake of that size on the road, it’s best to back away slowly. Sudden movements or loud noises can startle the snake and provoke an attack.
The butterfly garden is currently closed, so I plan to return between April and October. I recommend visiting in the order of the botanical garden -> reptile center -> butterfly garden -> insect ecological center.
If you’re looking for a 'learning while playing' space to visit with your child, I believe the Ulsan Grand Park Insect Ecological Center is definitely worth a visit. I hope to return regularly to explore various ecological spaces as the seasons change.
