Ilsan Kalguksu Main Branch: A Must-Visit Noodle Restaurant in Ilsan

Ilsan Kalguksu Main Branch
I had always wanted to try Ilsan Kalguksu, a famous restaurant that everyone recommends when you think of Ilsan! I finally got the chance to visit on a weekday after always being deterred by the long wait times.
This is the main branch of Ilsan Kalguksu. You can find Ilsan Kalguksu restaurants all over Goyang, but I had never been to the original location. Luckily, I was able to visit without any waiting!
Ilsan Kalguksu Main Branch Opening Hours
⏰ 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
It's located near Pungsan Station, but you can think of it as being close to Ilsan Bamnidan-gil. I was worried about parking, but there were two spacious parking lots right in front of the main branch.
We visited a little after 3 PM on a weekday, and almost all the tables were full. If you plan to visit on a weekday, it's best to go after lunchtime to avoid the wait.
Here, the only item on the menu is chicken kalguksu (noodle soup). It seems like other Ilsan Kalguksu restaurants sell clam kalguksu or even chicken dishes, but the main branch only offers chicken kalguksu. Note that there are no other branches for the main Ilsan Kalguksu.
And you can't forget the kimchi, which is the flower of kalguksu! It was moderately spicy and flavorful. It's the kind of kimchi that makes you want to eat it with just rice, and it makes you crave kalguksu.
The chicken kalguksu at Ilsan Kalguksu Main Branch came out within 10 minutes of ordering!
Although it's chicken kalguksu, it also contains some clams for a refreshing broth. And there was a good amount of chicken.
The tender chicken, rich chicken broth-based kalguksu, and chewy noodles made it worth the visit. The broth wasn't too thick or light, making it easy to drink. I ended up drinking almost all of it! I now understand why people add rice to the soup.
Eating it with the well-seasoned kimchi makes it the best kalguksu ever!
Adding pepper and seasoning to make it spicy transforms it into a refreshing and spicy chicken soup, almost like chicken gomtang. If you plan to add rice, be sure to try it with the seasoning!
We got takeout for our son. When you visit, they have pre-packaged takeout orders ready for you to grab at the counter. There's also a separate parking spot for takeout customers, which is great because you can enjoy it immediately. The cooking instructions are simple: just boil the noodles and add the broth and toppings! The taste is the same as eating it at the restaurant if you cook the noodles for the right amount of time. If the wait is too long or you're in a hurry, takeout is a good option.
I've lived in Goyang for quite a while, and I regret not visiting Ilsan Kalguksu Main Branch sooner! If you like noodles, it's a must-visit place!
