Fueling Up at Bukchon Son Mandu Before Exploring Insadong Ssamziegil

Before exploring the vibrant Insadong Ssamziegil, I wanted to grab a satisfying meal. I had previously researched and found Bukchon Son Mandu, a well-known restaurant in Insadong, and decided to check it out.
Bukchon Son Mandu's Insadong branch is located in an alley right next to Ssamziegil.
Bukchon Son Mandu Insadong Main Branch
Address: 42-5, Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, 1st floor
Hours: Daily 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Even though the interior wasn't very large, it was packed with customers. There was even a line outside!
While waiting in line, more and more people lined up behind me. Even though it was early, the place was bustling. Definitely a popular spot in Insadong!
Bukchon Son Mandu originated in 1953 from the Lee family's dumpling shop in Hamgyeongnam-do's Heungnam Onggi Village. It's a traditional North Korean handmade dumpling brand passed down through three generations, filled with dedication and secret recipes. They have 200 franchise locations nationwide, and this is the main branch!
After looking at the menu, I ordered:
- Bukchon Cold Noodles (regular)
- Bibim Cold Noodles (spicy)
- Bukchon Dumpling Soup
- Spicy Dumpling Soup
- Large Assorted Dumplings
On the table, there were utensils like spoons and scissors, pickled radish, napkins, and seasoning.
The dumpling wrappers were incredibly soft and chewy, which is expected from handmade dumplings. The fried dumplings were crispy and had a great texture!
The Spicy Bibim Cold Noodles were surprisingly not too spicy. The level of spiciness was just right and perfectly cut through any potential greasiness. The flavor was amazing!
The Spicy Dumpling Soup had a really rich and spicy broth, it felt like a hangover cure! It was incredibly clean and savory. The dumplings were large and filled with rice cakes, making it a very satisfying meal.
For the Bukchon Cold Noodles, you can choose between regular and spicy. I went with regular. The sweet and tangy broth was delicious, and the noodles were perfectly chewy with just the right amount of spice.

I highly recommend Bukchon Son Mandu if you're looking for delicious dumplings and noodles in Insadong.
