When I arrived in Jeju, I was unsure about what to eat. My parents wanted to try braised hairtail, so I looked for a restaurant near Jeju Tapdong. I found a place called Gungseochae, which is conveniently located near the airport, and decided to visit.

Fortunately, they are open late, so we could dine there after arriving on an evening flight. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance with beautiful lighting, making it inviting from the outside.

We rented a car and parked comfortably in their spacious parking area on the first floor. It’s always a relief to find parking while traveling, and it set a positive tone for our first meal.

The interior was quite spacious, with seating along the windows and ample space between tables, allowing for a comfortable dining experience.

One of the great things about this restaurant near Jeju Tapdong is that you don't have to worry about choosing from too many options. The set menu includes grilled hairtail, the braised dish my parents wanted, along with abalone and boiled pork, making it a perfect choice.

They also had high chairs available, which shows they cater to families well. After a short wait, our food was served all at once, and the sight of the full table was enough to make anyone feel satisfied.

1. Neatly arranged basic side dishes

The variety of dishes was impressive, and while the side dishes were limited, they were just what we needed. I particularly fell in love with the kimchi, which had a refreshing taste that made it hard to stop eating.

2. Grilled hairtail full of meat

While the braised hairtail was delicious, the grilled version made our dining experience even more satisfying. The fish was grilled whole, and the staff expertly filleted it right at our table.

3. Hairtail rice cooked in a pot

This restaurant offers hairtail not only as grilled and braised but also in a rice dish. The hairtail on top of the rice was so good that I forgot about other side dishes.

4. Abalone served as sashimi and grilled

Even though just one abalone would have been satisfying, they served both grilled and sashimi versions, providing a delightful experience.

5. Braised hairtail with whole octopus

The braised hairtail featured tender fish and a whole octopus, and the aroma was irresistible. The seasoning complemented the dish perfectly, making it unnecessary to reach for other side dishes.

Gungseochae is an excellent choice for dining near Jeju Tapdong, and I left feeling very satisfied.
