Discovering the Best Black Pork in Jeju: Dol-dam Black Pork Restaurant

One of my bucket list items for the New Year 2026 was to visit Jeju Island and enjoy the best meat of my life, and I finally fulfilled that wish. While Jeju is filled with barbecue restaurants, I didn't want to waste a precious meal by just walking into any place. I carefully considered the location, meat aging process, and the variety of side dishes before choosing Dol-dam Black Pork Restaurant in Yeondong.
Yeondong's location is conveniently close to the airport and the city center, making it perfect for the first or last day of my trip. As soon as I landed, I dropped off my luggage and rushed over, feeling my heart race at the charming ambiance of the Jeju stone wall right at the entrance.
Upon entering, I was relieved to find a pleasant and sophisticated atmosphere rather than the typical smoky smell of a barbecue place. I hate the eye irritation and lingering odor from grilling, but the ventilation system here was excellent, creating a clean environment.
When I saw the aging refrigerator proudly displayed on one wall, the meat looked almost like a work of art, with its vibrant red color and perfect balance of fat and lean meat that made my mouth water just by looking at it.
Seeing the self-service bar impeccably maintained confirmed my belief that the owner is truly passionate about their meat.
I ordered easily through an app at the table, and the high-quality photos made it hard to go wrong, so I picked one of the popular set menus.
The basic side dishes arrived, featuring seasoned scallions, pickled white kimchi, and seasoned water parsley, all of which were delightful accompaniments to the meat.
In particular, the seasoned scallions had a refreshing taste that complemented the rich flavor of the black pork perfectly.
The unique umami of the seasoned leaves made them irresistible with the meat, and I could have eaten them endlessly.
The seasoned water parsley had a fragrant aroma that combined beautifully with the savory meat, creating an explosive synergy that only those who have tried it would understand.
The pickled white kimchi was a great palate cleanser, allowing me to reset my taste buds and dive back into the meat.
Finally, the thick slices of Jeju black pork made their grand entrance! The thickness and marbling were astonishing, unlike any black pork I had seen before.
As soon as the meat hit the grill, the sizzle and subtle charcoal aroma filled the air, and from that moment, I was completely focused on the meat.
The staff grilled the meat to perfection, ensuring it was served juicy and tender without losing any flavor.
Watching the meat transform to a golden brown while the juices pooled was mesmerizing. The first bite, dipped lightly in salt, was an indescribable experience.
The exterior was grilled to a thin, crispy layer, and when I bit into it, the hot juices burst forth, flooding my mouth.
Pairing it with a dipping sauce intensified the flavors, amplifying the meat's natural taste without any fishy aftertaste, enhancing its sweetness.
Wrapping the seasoned leaves with a generous amount of wasabi created an ultimate flavor experience. The side dishes were not overpowering, perfectly supporting the meat, allowing me to enjoy every bite without getting tired of them.
The pork neck was incredibly tender and had a delightful chewiness. The smoky flavor permeated each bite, showcasing the excellence of Jeju black pork.
With each bite, the unique richness of the black pork enveloped my palate, melting away in a way that made it hard to believe it was pork.
The seasoned scallions were a refreshing complement, making them perfect for pairing with soju.
The sea snail rice was a concentrated taste of Jeju's ocean, with the rich flavor of abalone mixed with the chewy texture of the sea snails, making each spoonful a delight.
As a soup lover, I ordered kimchi stew, which could have easily been a main dish on its own, with its spicy broth, aged kimchi, tofu, and pork.
If you're looking to have a proper black pork feast near Yeondong, don't wander around—just head to Dol-dam Black Pork Restaurant. The ambiance, friendliness, and, most importantly, the quality of the meat are all exceptional.
