Discovering Jeju's Best Black Pork at Hyupjae Beach

Welcome to a must-visit restaurant in Jeju, located right in front of Hyupjae Beach, where you can enjoy high-quality black pork grilled over charcoal.
In just a 3-minute walk from Hyupjae Beach, you will find Dodon, a newly opened specialty black pork restaurant. The location is so convenient that you won't even need to move your car parked for beach activities!
As I visited after a fun day at the beach, I quickly headed to Dodon after a quick rinse in the shower. The restaurant has excellent facilities, hygiene, and service, and the quality of the meat is outstanding. They only source grade A pork, which undergoes 360 hours of low-temperature aging and an additional 48 hours of dry aging.
Being situated in the western region, it's also a perfect spot to catch the sunset. If you visit during sunset hours, you can enjoy a romantic meal with a stunning view. However, be aware that this time can get busy, so making a reservation is advisable.
Dodon is located at 354 Hanlim-ro, Hanlim-eup, Jeju. It operates daily from 12 PM to 11 PM. Parking is available for free in the lot across the street.
The interior of Dodon is pleasant, with clean air and a cozy atmosphere. I visited around 6 PM, and the place was bustling with customers, showcasing its popularity. From my seat, I could see Hyupjae Beach, and although the weather was a bit cloudy, I could imagine how beautiful the emerald ocean view would be on a clear day.
The menu is designed for groups, featuring options like the Dodon platter for 3-4 people (89,000 KRW), 600g of aged Jeju black pork for two (66,000 KRW), and smaller portions for solo diners. We ordered a portion for two adults and one child, along with a seafood soybean paste stew, which was more than enough to satisfy us.
As for the main dish, the black pork arrived looking thick and succulent. The quality was evident, and it was grilled expertly by the staff, ensuring it retained all the juices and smoky flavor. The pork was incredibly tender, melting in my mouth without any gamey taste, making it delicious on its own.
We enjoyed the traditional pairing of black pork with meljeot (a dipping sauce), which was surprisingly enjoyable even for someone like me who usually avoids strong flavors. The addition of spicy peppers and garlic made it flavorful without any unpleasant aftertaste.
The side dishes also complemented the pork wonderfully, enhancing its rich flavor. The seafood soybean paste stew was packed with fresh ingredients, providing a deep and savory taste, perfect for soothing the palate.
Overall, I had a delightful meal at Dodon, with tender and juicy pork, a cozy atmosphere, and friendly service. If you find a crowded restaurant near Hyupjae Beach, there's a 99% chance it's Dodon. It's a popular spot among locals and tourists alike, so be sure to stop by!
