Daesung Milmyeon

Hello, it's Anna!

This summer was incredibly hot. When the weather is this hot, nothing beats a cold bowl of noodles! I was looking for a *milmyeon* place in Nampo-dong when I discovered Daesung Milmyeon nearby.

From the outside, it looks like a humble neighborhood noodle shop, but if you want to enjoy a refreshing bowl of noodles in Busan's Bupyeong-dong, it's worth a visit. :-)

A promising tomorrow

Location and Parking

The location is roughly between Toseong Station and Jagalchi Station, so it's convenient to take a bus if you're using public transportation. It was also nice to visit while exploring Busan's Kkangtong Market.

If you're driving, there's no dedicated parking lot for the restaurant, so parking support isn't provided. I recommend using public transportation, but if you need to park, I recommend the roadside parking area in Zone 1 of the Gukje Market.

The Restaurant

The exterior of the restaurant has a typical old-fashioned noodle shop feel. The sign is straightforward, so anyone can tell it's a noodle shop, and it's the kind of place you naturally gravitate towards in the summer.

A valuable experience

The interior is simple and unadorned, giving off a vibe that it's a hidden gem. It felt like a place that focuses on flavor.

Menu

You can choose between *bibim* (spicy mixed) and *mul* (chilled broth) for both *naengmyeon* (cold noodles) and *milmyeon* (wheat noodles), and there's even *yeolmu mulmilmyeon* (chilled wheat noodles with young radish kimchi). The menu is very simple, with a total of five items.

One dish per person is a must! The restaurant also offers a 1,000 won discount for seniors (70+), soldiers, and students.

A special moment

After ordering, I looked around the restaurant and saw photos of famous people who had visited, including Benz and Jung Jong-chul.

The owners have also appeared on various media outlets, so I was looking forward to the food even before it came out.

They had water that seemed to be boiled directly in the restaurant, which you could get yourself at the self-service bar. It was served cold, which was great for quenching my thirst on a hot day.

Side dishes are also self-service, so don't forget to grab some!

The *milmyeon* and *naengmyeon* were served quickly due to the fast turnover.

A valuable experience

I was curious about the *naengmyeon* and tried to find reviews, but there weren't any, so I knew I had to try it myself. When I ordered, the owner told me that the *mul* (broth) version is Pyongyang-style, and the *bibim* (mixed) version is Hamheung-style.

It came with broth made from beef bone marrow, seasoned sauce, meat, egg, pear, and cucumber as toppings.

Plus, a grilled egg that had been cooked for 6 hours was generously placed on top.

It looked similar to regular Pyongyang *naengmyeon* on the outside, but it turned into a red broth when mixed.

An amazing sight

The chewy noodles are a matter of personal preference, but I eat both *naengmyeon* and *milmyeon*, so I enjoyed it.

The meat topping was tender and delicious, and the crunchy texture of the pear and cucumber was great. Even though it didn't have a lot of ice, it was refreshing and perfect for combating the summer heat.

One slightly unusual thing was that the broth tasted like *tteokbokki* (spicy rice cakes)! I thought it would have a mild flavor since it was Pyongyang-style *naengmyeon*, but the red sauce was surprising and had a savory flavor that made me keep eating it.

The portion size is large, so you'll be very full after eating it all. I enjoyed it as a refreshing summer meal!

Review & Overall Impression

I was in Nampo-dong and visited Daesung Milmyeon after searching for a place to escape the heat.

The exterior had a classic restaurant vibe, so I had high expectations. It was a decent place to eat, and if you want to eat *milmyeon* or *naengmyeon* near Nampo-dong, it's worth visiting at least once.

I heard they have a solid base of regular customers, and there were many older people when I visited, so it's definitely a local favorite in Busan. However, personally, while it was tasty, it wasn't really my style, so I probably won't visit again.

*Milmyeon* and *naengmyeon* restaurants are highly subjective, so please consider this post as a reference only. :-)
