1. Location and Parking
Located in Yeongdo's Food Alley, Namuseom Cart Bar was a 15-minute drive from Taejongdae. We parked at Hana Parking (paid) nearby.
The exterior was neat and welcoming, and I was immediately drawn to the chef slicing sashimi at the entrance.
2. Interior Atmosphere and Menu
Stepping inside, I was impressed by the clean and tidy interior. The seating was spacious, allowing us to sit and talk comfortably without bumping into the next table.
I was worried about a fishy smell, but there was none. The air was fresh, making my stay pleasant.
Looking at the menu, there were many great options for enjoying a drink. They offered a variety of dishes, from sliced raw fish (sashimi) and Mulhoe to spicy fish stew and grilled dishes.
The freshly sliced sashimi, in particular, stood out as a signature dish.
We ordered the assorted sashimi and Mulhoe, and soon a table full of side dishes was served. Before the main dishes even arrived, the variety of side dishes was enough to whet our appetites.
Each side dish was carefully prepared, making them feel like an important part of the meal rather than just an accompaniment.
The braised cutlassfish with its glossy sheen looked like a rice thief at first glance. The spicy and sweet sauce was deeply infused into the flesh, and the meat was so tender that I could easily scoop it up with a spoon.
The savory potato salad was perfect for soothing the stomach before diving into the sashimi. The creamy texture and subtle sweetness of the mashed potatoes blended smoothly.
The sprinkled parsley added a visual touch of freshness, making it feel like more than just a simple salad.
The steamed egg served in an earthenware pot, bubbling and steaming, conveyed a warm feeling. It was not too salty, making it perfect to eat with other dishes.
The golden-brown kimchi pancake was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The subtle spiciness that spread as I chewed made it a perfect match for a cold beer.
I was even happier that they gave us stir-fried chicken gizzards as a complimentary dish, even though we didn't order it separately. The chewy and savory flavor spread in my mouth as I chewed, making it a great snack with alcohol. The moderate seasoning made it hard to stop eating.
The barnacles, which I tasted for the first time, were full of novelty. When I peeled the shell and put it in my mouth, the scent of the sea spread subtly.
The sweetness came alive as I chewed, allowing me to feel a deep flavor.
The sea squirt salad was refreshing with a sweet and sour sauce. The chewy texture of the sea squirt was fun to chew.
It was a menu that captured both taste and nutrition, so it was good to eat without burden in the middle of a meal.
The abalone porridge made me reach for a spoon first because of its warm and savory taste. The deep flavor and rich taste of abalone filled my stomach, and all my friends admired it.
The perilla seed salad filled my mouth with a savory aroma and harmonized well with other dishes. It was good as a side dish because it was subtly chewy, and I could eat it without being burdened thanks to the savory perilla seed scent.
3. Seasonal Sashimi Platter
The assorted sashimi, generously prepared with seasonal seafood, felt fresh from the moment I saw it. The flounder sashimi, in particular, is always included as a main item, and its chewy and savory texture was outstanding.
The moment I put the fresh sashimi in my mouth, the savory umami was conveyed as it was. The chewy yet tender texture felt like it was alive and moving in my mouth, and the plainness that maximized the original taste of the sashimi was the charm of Namuseom Cart Bar.
As I enjoyed each piece while chatting with my friends, even the atmosphere of the restaurant felt special. The deeper flavor I felt each time I enjoyed it with a glass of alcohol made it an unforgettable moment.
When I wrapped the sashimi, chili pepper, and garlic in sesame leaves and ate it, the fragrance and savory flavor harmonized. The scent of sesame leaves spread the moment I chewed, further enhancing the plain taste of the sashimi. It was a perfect harmony with the added sauce.
4. Mulhoe
The generous Mulhoe came with a separate broth, allowing us to pour as much as we wanted. It was hearty just to look at because it contained large chunks of fresh sashimi, and the cool broth refreshed my mouth.
The moment I took a bite of the Mulhoe, which was full of sweet and sour flavors, I forgot even the hot weather. The sashimi mixed with the cool broth made me want to refresh my appetite even while drinking.
At the end, I added thin noodles and mixed them together. The sour taste of the broth and the chewy texture of the noodles made it hearty enough to be a meal. It was even more satisfying because it was a cool and filling finish.
From the basic side dishes to the main menu and Mulhoe, everything was well-organized and satisfying to the very last drink.
5. Overall Review
I'm planning to get a frequent customer stamp and revisit this restaurant often!
