One chilly weekend afternoon, my friend and I were pondering what to eat when Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam, a renowned Bossam restaurant in Wangsimni, suddenly came to mind. The thought of enjoying a proper Bossam platter with a glass of soju after a long time made us head straight to Wangsimni without hesitation. Upon arrival, despite being near the bustling Wangsimni Station, it was nestled in a cozy and inviting alley. The warmth emanating from the scene gave me the feeling that we had found a truly great restaurant.

With excitement, we opened the door and were greeted by soft lighting and a neatly arranged interior, creating a comforting atmosphere. Pictures of a Korean folktale, 'Agi Jangsu' (Strong Baby), hanging on the walls hinted at the restaurant's long-standing tradition. We settled into a window seat, basking in the warm sunlight as we began to browse the menu. My friend and I were already in high spirits, looking forward to a delightful time with delicious food.

For 35 years, Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam Wangsimni has stubbornly adhered to serving only Bossam, maintaining its taste and dedication throughout the years. In an era where many restaurants promote a wide variety of menus, the fact that this place has been loved for so long with just one dish made me think there must be something special about it. I was filled with anticipation that their unique recipe would instantly shatter the common prejudices about Bossam, such as it being greasy, having an unpleasant odor, or being served in small portions.

Here, they use a special cut of pork to completely overturn the misconception that Bossam is greasy. Unlike regular pork belly, they carefully select a rare specialty cut, of which only 300g is produced per pig. Thanks to this, the texture is tender and chewy as you chew, and you can feel a moist and savory flavor spreading throughout your mouth. It seemed that this unwavering dedication allowed Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam to establish itself as a top-notch Bossam restaurant, boasting unchanging taste and the highest quality of meat, even amidst the emergence of similar brands.

소중한 기억

Even though Bossam alone would be satisfying enough, ordering a set menu here includes a generous portion of Seafood Clam Noodle Soup (for two) or Spicy Buckwheat Noodles. We chose the Seafood Clam Noodle Soup because we wanted a warm broth. The freshness was on a different level compared to the common noodle soups you can find elsewhere. The combination of the refreshing and spicy broth, carefully made fresh every day, and the chewy noodles made with only premium flour, was truly exceptional.

The refreshing taste of the broth you experience when you take your first bite cleanses your palate, and the chewy noodles, which have no floury taste at all, add a savory flavor as you chew. Thanks to the fresh clams and seafood, it felt as if the ocean had been moved directly to our table, allowing us to taste a deep and rich flavor. It was served in a generous portion, so we could enjoy it without feeling like we were running out, and it boasted a fantastic harmony when eaten with the Bossam.

When the Bossam we ordered finally arrived, the first thing that caught my eye was the neat and beautiful plating. The glossy Bossam meat boasted a delicious color, and the kimchi, ssam vegetables, and side dishes that came with it were arranged harmoniously like a painting. Just as the saying goes, "Good-looking food tastes good too," I already felt a sense of satisfaction just from the plating.

Fresh cabbage kimchi, fresh kimchi, and sweet and sour radish kimchi, all the side dishes that boast a fantastic harmony with Bossam, were served without any gaps. In particular, the kimchi here is made fresh every day to maintain its freshness, and the moderately ripened taste and crisp texture further enhanced the flavor of the Bossam. The ssam vegetables were also fresh and diverse, making it fun to wrap them to your liking.

It was finally time to taste the Bossam I had been waiting for. The moment I picked up a piece and put it in my mouth, it was an absolute marvel. The outside was gently cooked, making it tender, and as I chewed, the savory juices spread throughout my mouth. Without feeling greasy or dry at all, the soft and moist texture was truly impressive. As they had explained earlier, it was a different taste from the Bossam I had known before, perhaps because they only used special cuts.

Eating it with the kimchi and ssam that came with it doubled the taste. In particular, the kimchi here had a moderate seasoning that was neither too spicy nor too sweet, creating a fantastic harmony with the savory taste of the Bossam. Even when eaten with ssamjang, garlic, or ssam vegetables, it did not spoil the original taste but rather added to the flavor. I could feel that the Bossam was made with great care, and I couldn't help but exclaim at the deep and rich taste.

The interior of the restaurant was decorated to provide a sense of comfort and warmth even in the midst of the bustling city. The spacing between tables was adequate, making it easy to have intimate conversations with your party, and the soft lighting allowed us to enjoy our meal in a cozy and warm atmosphere. All the staff were also very friendly, so we were able to finish our meal comfortably without any inconvenience.

I was able to have a pleasant meal thanks to the overall clean and tidy interior. The small props placed on each table added to the restaurant's welcoming atmosphere, and the paintings on the walls allowed us to get a glimpse of its long history and stories. The fact that you can enjoy delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere was another charm of Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam Wangsimni.

밝은 미래특별한 순간

Today, Park Man-bae Arirang Bossam, which I visited as a Wangsimni Bossam 맛집, provided a more satisfying meal than I had expected. True to its 35-year tradition, I could feel the deep research and dedication to Bossam in its taste. It completely shattered my preconceived notions about Bossam being greasy or having an unpleasant odor, and it made me aware of the new charm of moist and savory Bossam.

In particular, the Seafood Clam Noodle Soup, which is served with the set menu, was excellent with its refreshing broth and chewy noodles, making it perfect to enjoy with Bossam. From the generous portions and neat table setting to the comfortable and cozy space, I had a satisfactory experience in every way. If you are looking for Bossam in Wangsimni, I would recommend this place without hesitation.
