A Taste of Daegu in Busan: Myeongdong Pork Stew - A Delicious Discovery

Myeongdong Pork Stew, located in Jungang-dong, Busan, is a restaurant specializing in pork stew (Dwaeji Jjigae). This dish, originally from Daegu, is not commonly found in Busan, so today I'm excited to introduce you to its charm.
The restaurant is located at 55 Jungang-dong and boasts a modern and clean exterior. Stepping inside, you'll find a cozy atmosphere and a spacious, comfortable interior, making it a great place to visit with family or friends.
Myeongdong Pork Stew, as the name suggests, specializes in pork stew. Its convenient location in Jungang-dong, Busan, makes it easily accessible and a popular dining spot.
What makes this place special is that the pork stew perfectly recreates the traditional taste of Daegu, offering a unique culinary experience in Busan.
They mainly serve meals during lunchtime but after 1 PM you can also order meat dishes. There is a 1,000 won charge for the table setting, but they explained that this allows them to offer the meat at a more affordable price.
Next time, I want to try the meat! Orders are placed through a kiosk, and the owner's detailed explanations were very helpful.
I ordered a single serving of pork stew and a steamed egg dish. You can choose between spicy and regular flavors, and the owner recommended the spicy version, saying it's about as spicy as Shin Ramyun.
Solo diners are always welcome here! There were instructions on how to best enjoy the stew posted on the walls, and aprons were readily available.
The self-service bar was well-maintained, allowing easy access to extra side dishes and broth.
The raw pork stew (9,000 KRW) arrived, and the portion size was quite generous for a single serving.
The owner was very proud of the fact that they only use domestic Korean pork belly and pork jowl!
I was curious about the kimchi since the owner said he learned the recipe from Seocho Galbi Jae-sang. The kimchi was served as stir-fried kimchi, perfectly fermented and not too spicy, making it ideal for adding to the stew later.
The side dishes, except for the konjac (yam cake) braised in soy sauce, are the same every day. The konjac dish changes daily, and it was sweet and savory, just the way I like it.
The raw pork stew contains 120g of pork belly and pork jowl per serving, which I thought was quite reasonable for the price.
Visually, it resembles pork kimchi stew, but the taste...?
It was similar to Yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), but the garlic flavor was more fragrant and the fresh pork taste was savory and went down smoothly.
It wasn't very spicy, only about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. I think the spicier version would have been even better.
The pork was tender and flavorful, without any unpleasant odor. It was so good that I couldn’t stop eating!
The Steamed Egg (5,000 KRW)
The amount of steamed egg was enormous! Enough for three people to share.
The toppings on top added a nice chewiness, and of course, stew goes perfectly with steamed egg!
Now, I added some more broth to the remaining soup, along with the Jae-sang kimchi that the owner learned to make, and then added ramen noodles!
Myeongdong Pork Stew Jungang branch offers unlimited ramen noodles during lunchtime!
Calling all hungry people~
Adding the kimchi transformed it into pork kimchi stew! It's like getting both pork stew and kimchi stew in one, a real win-win situation. Hehe.
Even though I ordered only one serving, I felt like I ate two. I was so full, and I cleaned my plate! LOL.
Being located in an office district, it's perfect for lunch, company dinners, or just a regular dinner.
Lastly, the owner's thoughtfulness!
I'll conclude my Dokhak Teacher review, always striving to deliver the most vivid experiences.
