I recently visited Butanchu after a job interview in the Gwangjin-gu area. I was craving ramen, so I searched for a ramen place on my way home.
Of course, the interview was a complete failure... 😭
The ramen restaurant I visited is famous for its Tonkotsu ramen:
"Butanchu Konkuk University Branch"
Butanchu is located inside an alley.
It's right on the corner of the building, so it was easy to find. Inside, there are seats for one person up to four people, but there aren't that many seats.
They have four main ramen options, and I chose the most basic one:
Toku Tonkotsu Ramen.
I chose the Hosomen noodles based on a recommendation. For the sauce and toppings, I went with a normal amount of sauce, but a lot of bean sprouts, garlic, and green onions.
Finally, I added a Karaage set. I sat in a single seat near the entrance.
The food came out almost immediately.
The ramen had a deep, savory aroma, and was piled high with the bean sprouts I added.
And then there was the warm, crispy Karaage.
I should have asked for half the noodles at this point, but I was so hungry that I forgot and ordered a full portion.
So, I ended up with a huge portion of noodles.
I regretted it as soon as it arrived.
The chashu (pork belly) was large, and the broth was really rich and deep in flavor.
However, it was a little salty, even though I ordered the sauce to be a normal amount.
The Karaage was crispy and warm, so it was delicious, but the ramen portion was so big that I ended up taking it home. 😅
Still, I managed to eat almost all the bean sprouts, broth, and rice, so I felt somewhat accomplished. It's a great place for solo dining.
You can customize your ramen to your liking, changing the noodles or sauce depending on your mood, which is nice.
But next time, I'll ask for less sauce and fewer noodles.
Don't be greedy! 😉
