A Review of a Kalguksu Restaurant in Ilsan La Festa: Daejong Kalguksu Main Branch

A review of a kalguksu (Korean noodle soup) restaurant in Ilsan La Festa that I visited myself.
1. A Great Choice if You Love Kalguksu
I often visit this kalguksu restaurant in Ilsan La Festa with friends who enjoy Korean food and kalguksu. Since they make the food directly, you can order a variety of dishes besides kalguksu, such as dumplings and bossam (boiled pork slices). So, I decided to visit again after a long time. The fact that three generations run the place was touching, and I could feel that they make everything themselves rather than using pre-made products. That's why I first visited, and now I'm a regular.
It's not just the kalguksu; they also have a variety of other great menu items. So, I decided to enjoy a satisfying meal with a combination of beef bone broth kalguksu, spicy noodles, bossam, and buchu-jeon (chive pancake).
2. Location and Restaurant Information
It's located between Jeongbalsan Station and Madu Station, and it's not too far from La Festa or Western Dom. They are open from 11:00 to 21:30 on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and until 23:00 on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
There is parking available in the building, which is very convenient if you're driving. Of course, as I mentioned above, it's also easily accessible by subway, making it a great place to enjoy a glass of makgeolli (Korean rice wine).
The sign is green, making it easy to spot when you pass by, and the exterior looks very clean.
3. Interior Atmosphere and Seating
Inside, there are chairs and floor seating available, so you can choose a spot that suits your preference. The tables and chairs are made of wood, and the interior atmosphere is cozy with soft lighting.
When you sit at the table, you can easily see the menu displayed, making it easy to order.
When I arrived at the kalguksu restaurant in Ilsan La Festa and looked around, I saw that they also welcome people who come to eat alone. That's one of the reasons why I often visit.
4. Side Dishes that Complement the Food
In one corner of the restaurant, there are kimchi varieties that go well with both kalguksu and bossam, which you can help yourself to. They are refrigerated and perfectly fermented, so I couldn't wait to eat them.
They have kimchi and green onion kimchi, which are essential for a kalguksu restaurant.
The moment I took a bite, the savory flavor of the seafood and the seasoning pleasantly filled my mouth.
5. Attention to Ingredients
The dishes I ordered started to come out one by one. First, the domestic bossam was neatly presented. The slices were moderately thick, so my first thought when I put one in my mouth was that it was generous.
Sometimes, when you eat thickly sliced pork like this, it can have a unique smell, but there was no need to worry here.
The savory flavor was exceptional, and I understood why they only use domestic pork and female pigs.
The best part is that they serve napa cabbage wraps. The texture is great, and it goes well with the kimchi that comes with the meal, but I think it goes best with the bossam radish kimchi.
The soft texture and the combination of fat and lean meat were perfect for me. If you're looking for a savory flavor, this is the best choice. You can tell how much attention they pay to the ingredients just by tasting one piece of bossam.
The food comes out at a good pace overall. The kalguksu restaurant in Ilsan La Festa is great because they serve kalguksu with savory beef bone broth, but the spicy kalguksu with chewy noodles is also very popular.
The noodles are already well seasoned, so you can just mix them with the vegetables and eat. I remember them being particularly moist.
The highlight is definitely the kalguksu with beef bone broth that has been simmered in a cauldron for a long time.
They make their own noodles using a low-temperature aging process and make the dough fresh every day. It's good to get kalguksu from a supplier, but I think you can't beat a place that makes it themselves.
They have a separate noodle-making room, so the kalguksu tastes great. In the front, there's a corner where they make handmade dumplings.
I think the fact that this kalguksu restaurant in Ilsan La Festa puts so much care into their food is evident in these details.
The dumplings are huge and filled with a generous amount of filling. The filling has a high proportion of meat, so it's quite moist when you take a bite.
To top it off, the crispy seafood pancake, filled with small dried shrimp and other shrimp, is a great way to end the meal.
I'm always amazed at how well they make the outside crispy. It's a place that puts a lot of time and effort into making food with good ingredients, so you won't regret visiting.
