A Michelin-Starred Raw Beef Experience at Gwangjang Market: B촌 Yookhwe Annex

Hello, I'm Ellie!
Today, I'm going on a date to Seoul, specifically to Gwangjang Market!
When you think of Gwangjang Market, dishes like *bindaetteok* (mung bean pancake), raw beef (*yukhoe*), and *mayak gimbap* (addictive seaweed rice rolls) come to mind.
I especially love *yukhoe*, so I searched for the best *yukhoe* restaurant and found a Michelin-recommended spot in Gwangjang Market: B촌 Yookhwe Annex.
Let me introduce it to you!
The bouncy and delicious *yukhoe* is definitely best at B촌 Yookhwe Annex. You'll regret it if you don't try it!

B촌 Yookhwe has both a main branch and an annex. The main branch is in the *yukhoe* alley, while the annex is on the main street. It's a short walk from Exit 8 of Jongno 5-ga Station.

We went to the annex. True to its Michelin reputation, there was a huge line of people waiting.
You can enter in order, following the instructions of the staff managing the waiting line.
I visited on a Sunday, and it was so full of foreigners that I almost forgot I was in Korea!
The fact that foreigners are willing to wait in line proves how delicious B촌 Yookhwe is, don't you think? I'm so excited!
There's a one-dish-per-person minimum, and all menu items are available for takeout, so you can conveniently enjoy this Michelin-recommended Gwangjang Market food at home.

The sign proudly declares its Michelin recognition! I can see why people are so proud of it.
I'm joining the line to taste it myself!
At B촌 Yookhwe Annex, popular menu items include *yukhoe* (raw beef), *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi* (raw beef with live octopus), *yukhoe bibimbap* (raw beef bibimbap), and *yuk-sasimi* (raw beef sashimi).
Next to the entrance, there's a fish tank filled with live octopus.

The fresh, lively octopus makes my mouth water!
I can't wait to eat *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi*!
The restaurant is packed with customers. It's bustling and requires a wait, but isn't that the mark of a great restaurant? The turnover rate is fast, so the wait wasn't too long.
After a lap around Gwangjang Market, it was our turn! I'm so excited!

Inside the kitchen, you can constantly hear the sound of octopus being chopped (*tang tang tang*), and the staff are busy taking orders.
Everyone looks excited as they order and wait for their food.
We ordered *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi*, and of course, we had to have soju and beer with it!
Before the food arrived, we were served beef radish soup. The broth was clear, refreshing, and clean-tasting. I liked that it didn't taste artificial.
It had large chunks of radish and a few pieces of beef, so we refilled it twice! The beef radish soup had a more refreshing taste than others.

First drink is *somaek* (soju and beer mixed), right? One drink before the food comes!
As I was pouring the drinks, our *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi* arrived!
Wow, the presentation is amazing! It's a combination of fresh beef and bouncy octopus, with crunchy, sweet pear and a bright yellow egg yolk.
The live octopus moving around makes it even more appetizing!

I took some seaweed, topped it with the *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi* mixed with egg, pear, and radish sprouts, and dipped it in sesame oil.
The freshness of the ingredients and the savory flavor filled my mouth, and the texture was amazing. This is what I was looking for!
I've had *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi* at other places, but because B촌 Yookhwe Annex is so popular and has a fast turnover, it felt fresher and more flavorful than other places. The portions were also bigger. I added a slice of my favorite green chili and it tastes even better!

The alcohol tastes better too! Cheers!
We were so full from the generous portion of *yukhoe-nakji-tangtangi* that we couldn't order anything else, but other people were ordering *yukhoe bibimbap* as well. Next time, I'll order *yukhoe bibimbap* and *yuk-sasimi*!
It's been recognized as a Michelin restaurant every year since 2017, and there's a good reason for it. Koreans and foreigners alike love the taste, and you can find it all at B촌 Yookhwe Annex!
