A Memorable Culinary Experience in Jeju Island

What is the most memorable moment during your trip to Jeju Island?
For me, it was when I encountered a charming stone-walled house amidst the rising mist and enjoyed a warm bowl of noodles there.
Today, I would like to introduce a hidden gem in Jocheon-eup, Gyorae-ri, where I had a delightful meal at a restaurant along the Saryeoni Forest Path.
1. Hanulraegi Gyorae Noodle Village
Address: 637 Bijarim-ro, Jocheon-eup, Jeju City
Opening Hours: Daily 09:00 - 16:00 (until ingredients run out)
Menu: Anchovy Noodles 6,000 KRW, Sea Urchin Noodles 10,000 KRW, Mixed Noodles 8,000 KRW, Meat Noodles 8,000 KRW, Small Dumplings 8,000 KRW, Small Sticky Rice Sausage 10,000 KRW
The table was filled with a set of four types of noodles: meat noodles, anchovy noodles, mixed noodles, and sea urchin noodles, accompanied by sticky rice sausage and dumplings. Just looking at the beautifully arranged dishes made me happy before even picking up my chopsticks.
The restaurant exudes a unique charm from the outside! Built with the iconic basalt of Jeju, the structure is complemented by the elegantly curved pine trees at the entrance. There is ample parking space, making it easy to visit with a rental car.
A note on the menu reassures diners that only locally sourced pork is used here. Even the cabbage in the kimchi is domestically sourced, showing the care taken with each ingredient.
What sets this restaurant apart is its special take on meat noodles. Instead of the usual bone broth, they use anchovy broth, resulting in a clean and refreshing taste rather than the heavy flavor typical of meat noodles. It's also impressive that they use domestic sea urchins.
The interior is decorated in warm wood tones, creating a cozy atmosphere. With traditional seating where you can relax and enjoy your meal, it's especially suitable for families or those dining with children.
The lifeblood of a noodle restaurant is, of course, the kimchi! The shiny red kimchi is visually enticing and has a crunchy texture that pairs perfectly with the noodle dishes.
The accompanying pickled radish is salty yet sweet, making it a delightful side dish that refreshes your palate while eating noodles.
The dumplings from Saryeoni Forest Path restaurant are plump and served in a light broth, ensuring they remain moist until the last bite. Topped with sesame and green onions, they add a nutty aroma to the dish.
Finally, I encountered the sea urchin noodles. The clear broth topped with generous amounts of bright yellow sea urchin roe is a sight to behold. The addition of sesame and fresh vegetables showcases the dish's elegance, making it feel like a bowl of the sea.
If you're looking for a place that offers not just a meal but also a beautiful experience, make sure to visit this delightful restaurant along the Saryeoni Forest Path during your trip to Jeju.
