A Hidden Gem in Hongdae: Discovering Mong Cuisine
Walking through the streets of Hongdae, I'm always captivated by the vibrant energy and new sights. Especially on a day when I had plans to meet a friend, I revisited Hongdae after a while, and the beautiful weather made me feel excited. While pondering what to eat, a hip-looking bar that I had always passed by caught my eye. I thought, 'This is it!' and walked in without hesitation, never imagining it would be such an excellent choice. Among the numerous restaurants in Hongdae, this place felt like it had something special.
While exploring the backstreets of Hongdae with my friend, we were drawn into 'Mong Cuisine Hongdae.' The sparkling sign and unique interior under the bright sunlight gave us the thrill of discovering a hidden treasure. Unlike the bustling streets of Hongdae, the cozy yet sophisticated atmosphere seemed to welcome us. I had a feeling that we would have a great time with delicious food today.
First Impression: Mong Cuisine, A Hotspot for Hipsters
As soon as I stepped inside, the space that unfolded before my eyes exceeded expectations. The stylishly designed furniture and soft lighting created a gallery-like atmosphere. My friend and I took a seat at a table inside, and the view of Hongdae through the glass window felt like a framed picture, making it even more special. I was certain that we could create special memories with delicious food here.
There were also terrace seats and private booth spaces, which seemed perfect for gatherings with friends or dates. Even from where we sat, the food ordered at other tables looked delicious, making it hard to choose what to order. Mong Cuisine Hongdae strongly impressed me as more than just a place to drink; it was a complex space where you can enjoy delicious food in a stylish atmosphere.
Signature Menu: Mong Cuisine's Heartfelt Creations
We ordered the Spicy Cream Dakgalbi (Korean spicy stir-fried chicken) and Shrimp Gambas, which are considered signature dishes of this place. As soon as we saw the menu, it was filled with mouth-watering dishes. The Dakgalbi, in particular, looked unique with the cream sauce, promising a distinctive flavor. The Gambas, served with plenty of garlic and shrimp in hot olive oil, was also visually enticing.
Just like they said the cooking starts right after the order, there was a bit of a wait, but it wasn't boring at all. Instead, I imagined the delicious food being prepared and became even more excited. Finally, the Spicy Cream Dakgalbi came out, and it looked absolutely delicious. The spicy Dakgalbi sauce blended with the creamy sauce to create a fantastic color. The large pieces of chicken, chewy rice cakes, and crunchy vegetables were served in an appetizing way.
A State of Ecstasy: A Feast of Flavors
First, I tasted the Spicy Cream Dakgalbi. The spicy Dakgalbi sauce, combined with the cream sauce, wasn't greasy at all; rather, it was smooth and deeply flavorful. The chicken was juicy and tender, and the rice cakes were chewy. The perfect harmony of spiciness, sweetness, and savory flavors was irresistible. Dipping it in the bread that came with it made it taste even better.
Next, I tasted the Shrimp Gambas. The pan was filled with olive oil, garlic, and plump shrimp, and the aroma of garlic stimulated my appetite. Dipping the baguette bread in the olive oil and enjoying it with the shrimp filled my mouth with a rich flavor. The shrimp had a great, chewy texture and a sweet taste, and the combination of garlic and olive oil was simply amazing! I couldn't help but think it was a really delicious restaurant in Hongdae.
Another Menu with Added Uniqueness
We were so satisfied with the menu that we ordered another dish, Chadol Sukju Bokkeum (stir-fried beef brisket with bean sprouts). Thinly sliced beef brisket and crunchy bean sprouts were stir-fried with a spicy sauce, and it looked incredibly appetizing. The beef brisket was tender, and the bean sprouts had a crunchy texture, adding fun to the dish. The spicy sauce was well-absorbed into the beef brisket and bean sprouts, making it irresistible.
In addition, I was really impressed that Mong Cuisine Hongdae makes all the sauces themselves and cooks each dish with care right after ordering. This sincerity was clearly reflected in the taste of the food. I think the great appeal of this place is that you can enjoy dishes of a quality comparable to Korean or Japanese restaurants as appetizers. It was really fun to order a variety of dishes and savor the flavors with friends.
Why Would I Want to Visit Mong Cuisine Hongdae Again?
Mong Cuisine Hongdae was more than just a place that sells delicious food; it was an attractive space where you can have a comfortable and enjoyable time. In addition to the hip interior and pleasant atmosphere, the friendly service made the whole experience enjoyable. In particular, I was even more impressed because I could feel the owner's dedication to making every dish with care in the taste of the food.
Through this visit, I definitely understood why Mong Cuisine Hongdae is loved as a restaurant in Hongdae. If I come to Hongdae again, I definitely want to visit again and try other dishes.
