Winter Sashimi with Family
To celebrate the New Year, our family decided to enjoy a meal out and indulge in our first winter sashimi. After some searching, we ended up at Seokchon Live Fish Restaurant, known for its good value.
It is conveniently located very close to exit 3 of Seokchon Station, with a few parking spots available right in front of the restaurant.
We arrived right after their break time ended at 4:30 PM, and since we were the only customers at that moment, we had a peaceful meal. However, being a Friday, it quickly filled up as the workday ended.
This restaurant is quite popular and even has a waiting list. If there is a wait, they limit your dining time to two hours!
Menu and Ordering
The menu features seasonal sashimi, mixing various types such as mackerel, salmon, and sea bream. Instead of the usual platter combinations, they offer unique pairings like large yellowtail with flatfish. We ordered the winter special of large yellowtail and flatfish for four people at 105,000 won, and my dad also wanted to try the cockle bibimbap.
They also serve hot soups like haechun-tang and haeshin-tang, perfect for warming up on a chilly day.
Side Dishes and First Impressions
The basic setup included sea cucumber, sea squirt, grilled herring, corn butter, white kimchi, sushi rice, and fried squid. The seaweed soup came out first, and everyone was so hungry that we devoured it before I could take a photo.
The grilled herring was light and not greasy, with plenty of meat to enjoy. The fried squid was freshly made, warm, and crispy, making it delicious.
Winter Sashimi Highlights
Then came the beautifully presented large yellowtail and flatfish! Each person received a pack of seaweed and dipping sauce.
The sashimi was cut thick and looked incredibly fresh. The yellowtail was rich and flavorful, and wrapping it in seaweed with the dipping sauce was the highlight.
The flatfish sushi was also impressive. The wasabi was high quality, and the flatfish was fresh and tender, making it a delightful sushi experience.
Cockle Bibimbap and Soup
When the staff brought out the rice and cockles separately, I initially thought they were serving something else, but we all laughed when I realized it was the cockle bibimbap. Mixing the warm rice with the cockles was a treat, and despite looking salty, it was perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor.
Even though we were quite full from the bibimbap, we couldn't leave without trying their spicy soup. We ordered an additional bowl of rice to enjoy with it, and it was a refreshing finish to our meal.
Overall Impression
There aren't many sashimi restaurants in our area, so it felt great to have a genuine sashimi experience after a long time. Eating at Garak Market doesn't necessarily mean cheaper prices, and with the setup fees, it can get quite expensive. However, for a group of four at 105,000 won, the value was decent.
Overall, the side dishes were satisfying, and the cockle bibimbap was delicious. The staff felt slightly unfriendly, but considering the price, atmosphere, and limited options in the neighborhood, it's understandable why many people visit.
I can see us coming back here when we crave sashimi during our outings. This has been my experience at Seokchon Live Fish Restaurant.
