A Delightful Dining Experience at Jeonju Samcheondong

Recently, I met up with friends for a meal after a long time, and we spent quite a while deciding where to go.
That day, I was craving something spicy, so we headed to a popular restaurant in Jeonju Samcheondong known for its fresh grilled octopus.
The restaurant, named "Hwaryeohan Bulmat Jjukkumi," is famous for its enticing grilled flavor that instantly whets the appetite. Here’s my experience from that visit.
Location: 1st Floor, 97 Gyeryongsan-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do
Operating hours: Closed every Monday / 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM (Break time: 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM / Last order: 7:30 PM)
The restaurant is conveniently located just 50 meters from Jeonju Haesung Middle and High School, right in front of it.
The building stands tall in a spacious lot, capturing attention immediately. The parking area is ample, allowing for easy parking before entering.
Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by the staff. The interior is clean and modern, which I found quite appealing. I could already feel the spicy aroma wafting through the air.
We settled into a comfortable spot and prepared to order. The menu is straightforward, focusing on the main dishes rather than an extensive selection, which I appreciated.
We ordered the famous spicy grilled octopus and a side of perilla seed potato dumplings to balance the heat.
Before long, our dishes arrived at the table. A variety of side dishes were served, making it perfect for mixing with rice.
Instead of regular rice, they serve it freshly cooked in a pot, ensuring it stays warm. We allowed the rice to steam a bit longer with the lid on.
The grilled octopus was the star of the meal, boasting a chewy and bouncy texture that was delightful.
The presentation was impressive, with the well-cleaned octopus stir-fried with plenty of vegetables like onions and cabbage, adding to the nutritional value.
Mixing in some bean sprout salad added a nice crunch to the rice, making it a perfect combination.
The pickled onions were slightly sweet and salty, enhancing the overall flavor of the meal.
The tangy radish salad was not overly salty, so it was enjoyable even when mixed generously with rice.
With the number of people we had, the rice was served in generous portions. Additionally, the meal came with a refreshing side of muk (Korean jelly), making it a hearty dining experience.
After lifting the lid, I took a spoonful of the fluffy rice. The grilled octopus followed, with a natural yet rich grilled flavor.
Unlike places that artificially enhance flavors, this restaurant offers a genuine grilled taste.
Four types of side dishes were served, complementing the meal perfectly with their crunchy textures and savory flavors.
The broth was plentiful, ensuring that we had enough seasoning to mix with the rice.
They provided a flat ladle for serving, making it easy to scoop and mix everything together.
Unlike regular ladles that are too deep, this design was a thoughtful improvement.
The variety of side dishes exceeded my expectations, as many places only offer the basics. Here, they are freshly made and served.
One of my favorites was the radish salad, which was crunchy and refreshing.
I mixed the rice and ingredients together in a wide bowl, ensuring everything was well combined.
The more radish salad added, the better it tasted, truly enhancing the overall flavor.
The cool muk served alongside complemented the meal perfectly, with a refreshing broth that was not heavy, making it easy to enjoy.
Next came the perilla seed potato dumplings, which seemed like a perfect dessert option. They were colorful with zucchini and carrots, making them visually appealing and nutritious.
The rich perilla broth warmed me up, especially during the transitional season when colds are common.
It paired well with the side dishes and was both nutty and savory, making it an excellent palate cleanser.
I found myself enchanted by the unique dishes offered here. The dumplings were not too thick, providing a chewy texture that was addictive.
The vegetables mixed in were cooked just right, earning my approval.
Next time, I plan to bring my family to this wonderful restaurant in Jeonju Samcheondong. I’m sure my parents will love it too.
