Touching scene

My partner and I recently traveled to Jeju Island with another couple. We all agreed that black pork was a must-try dish in Jeju, so we searched for a good restaurant near our accommodation and found Salt House Jeju Black Pork Jungmun Branch.

Its proximity to Jungmun Saekdal Beach was a plus, and the promise of delicious Seogwipo black pork naturally raised our expectations.

Salt House Jeju Black Pork Jungmun Branch

Location: 1st floor, 86 Jungmun-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do

Hours: Daily 11:30 - 23:30 (Last order 22:30)

Menu: Barley Straw Thick Black Pork 76,000 KRW, Black Pork Kimchi Stew 8,000 KRW, Zucchini Soybean Paste Stew 8,000 KRW, Radish Noodle Soup 8,000 KRW

The exterior of Salt House was clean and impressive in size. Unlike the often-chaotic atmosphere of tourist areas, it had a well-organized vibe, which we appreciated.

The restaurant had a very large parking area, which was convenient. Parking is always a key factor when traveling, and this place seemed to have plenty of space for even tour buses.

As soon as we entered, we noticed a receipt review event. Participating would give us a discount on the meat, which would help reduce the cost. We were pleasantly surprised by this unexpected event, considering the usual prices at tourist destinations.

Seeing the meat storage area upon entering also gave us confidence. The restaurant emphasized the aging process, and the systematic management made us feel they were serious about their pork.

The interior was spacious with ample space between tables. It could accommodate up to 100 people, making it suitable for group visits.

We ordered the Barley Straw Thick Black Pork, Black Pork Kimchi Stew, Zucchini Soybean Paste Stew, and Radish Noodle Soup. We felt the prices were reasonable for the portions.

The restaurant also had high chairs for babies, indicating that many families visit. This was reflected in the attentive service.

There was a self-service bar where we could get more side dishes whenever we wanted, which was great. It's often awkward to ask for more, so being able to take what we needed freely was a plus.

The raw pork we ordered first was visually appealing with its thick cut. The color was excellent, and the aged pork had a beautiful sheen, raising our expectations even higher.

1. Black Pork with Seared Juiciness

The staff seared the pork over barley straw. The smoky aroma was wonderful, and there were no unpleasant odors.

Seeing the seared pork made our mouths water. The outside was perfectly cooked, while the inside remained juicy, reducing the burden of grilling it ourselves.

After the initial searing, we grilled the pork ourselves at the table. Because the juices were already sealed in, it was easy to grill.

My partner, who is in charge of grilling, took over. He said he had never seen such high-quality pork before.

The pork was well-aged, so it wasn't tough and was easy to cut. Unlike other places where the pork can be tough or difficult to cut, this was not the case here.

The heat control was simple, making it easy to grill without making mistakes. The equipment and setup were clearly designed for the customer's convenience.

2. A Taste of Jeju in Every Bite

The perfectly grilled pork looked fantastic. It was so glossy that we knew it would be delicious even before trying it.

The table setting was so abundant that we felt full just looking at it. The side dishes were well-organized, and the entire spread highlighted the pork as the main attraction.

The black pork, with its balance of fat and lean meat, paired well with wasabi. The refreshing wasabi cut through the richness, making it a combination we couldn't resist.

The pork also went well with the refreshing green onion salad. Eating the green onion salad in between bites of pork helped balance the flavors.

The combination of Jeju's signature Mel젓 (fermented anchovy sauce) and pork was also excellent. The savory flavor enhanced the pork's richness.

3. Hearty Zucchini Soybean Paste Stew

The Zucchini Soybean Paste Stew was surprisingly hearty. It had a completely different flavor profile from the pork, making the meal more diverse. The stew retained the unique flavor of soybean paste stew while reducing any overwhelming aspects.

Dipping the pork in the sauce created a completely different flavor! We liked that we could enjoy the pork in various ways according to our personal preferences.

4. Kimchi Stew with Plenty of Pork

We had to order the Black Pork Kimchi Stew. It was the perfect complement to the pork.

The kimchi stew had a spicy and flavorful broth. It wasn't too strong and felt comforting, making it a great side dish for rice.

5. Refreshing Radish Noodle Soup to Finish

We chose the Radish Noodle Soup to finish our meal, and we were satisfied. The cool and clean flavor refreshed our palates after eating the pork.

If Salt House were closer to my home, I would want to go there every day. It was a very satisfying meal.
