A Delicious Black Pork Experience at Heukdon Sesang Suragan Pyoseon, Jeju

On the second day of my trip, I was pondering what to have for an early dinner when I remembered a Jeju black pork restaurant in Pyoseon that locals had recommended. It wasn't far from my accommodation, so I took a leisurely stroll and soon arrived at a place filled with the savory aroma of meat.

1. Premium Black Pork
The sizzling black pork on the grill boasted thick cuts of meat. The table was filled with a generous assortment of side dishes, leaving no space to spare.
This restaurant is located within walking distance of Pyoseon Beach and Haevichi Hotel, making it a great dining option near Jeju Herb Garden. The exterior might not be fancy, but it has a friendly and comfortable neighborhood vibe.
Inside, I was surprised to see numerous celebrity autographs and photos, including one of former President Moon Jae-in. It turns out this place is famous nationwide!
The interior of Jeju Pyoseon Restaurant has a cozy and warm ambiance, enhanced by the soft yellow lighting. The round tables are equipped with effective ventilation systems, creating a pleasant dining environment.
The menu focuses on black pork, with the amount of meat determined by the number of people in your party. The selection isn't extensive, but that gives a more specialized feel.
As soon as we ordered, the table was quickly set with various side dishes, including fresh vegetables for wraps, seasoned green onions, and kimchi. These were simple yet carefully prepared.
Pickled vegetables like perilla leaves and Korean lettuce were expected to pair perfectly with the black pork. I was amazed that they make all of these in-house.
The thinly sliced green onions had a subtle sweetness after removing the spicy flavor.
The lettuce, perilla leaves, and romaine lettuce were incredibly fresh without any wilted parts. I appreciated the generosity, especially considering the high cost of vegetables these days.
Once the black pork arrived, the table was overflowing with food. I was impressed by the attention to detail in every dish.
2. High-Quality Meat at a Glance
We ordered the pork neck and pork belly. Special cuts are available by reservation or on a first-come, first-served basis.
After heating the grill with charcoal, we placed the meat on top. The black pork, cut to just the right thickness, quickly changed color, making my mouth water.
The staff took care of grilling the meat for us, providing attentive service to each table.
The Jeju Pyoseon restaurant grills the pork to crispy perfection on the outside while keeping the inside juicy, a flavor that everyone can enjoy. The juices oozed out, doubling the savory flavor and creating an intense taste.
3. Bursting with Juices
I took a piece of the perfectly grilled pork belly and dipped it in salt. The crispy and chewy texture of the skin was delightful.
Adding a touch of wasabi helped balance the richness of the pork and cleanse the palate.
The combination with the fermented anchovy sauce (meljeot) was also fantastic. The flavor of the sauce, reduced over the heat, deepened and paired perfectly with the sweet juices of the pork.
4. Spicy Kimchi Stew
When we ordered rice at the Jeju Pyoseon restaurant, a kimchi stew was served as a complimentary side dish. Served in a dented aluminum pot, it added to the authentic atmosphere of the restaurant.
As I scooped from the bottom of the pot, large chunks of black pork kept appearing. There was a generous amount!
The kimchi stew, made with pork bone broth, had a rich and deep flavor. Mixing it with rice and eating it like porridge filled me up nicely.
5. High-Quality Side Dishes
It's practically a rule to have spicy noodles after eating meat. The icy broth refreshed my palate.
The appeal of the spicy noodles, which weren't dry but rather moist, was endless. I couldn't stop eating them, enjoying the sweet, sour, and refreshing taste.
My friend ordered the Janchi noodles, which had a clean and savory broth made from mushrooms and anchovies.
The addition of chili powder added a spicy kick and helped soothe my stomach. It was a great hangover cure.
Although it started as a typical restaurant in a quiet neighborhood, it is now a beloved restaurant in Pyoseon, Jeju, loved by people from all over the country. The dishes, made with fresh ingredients at reasonable prices, provided a satisfying meal.
