A Delicious Black Pork BBQ Experience Near Seogwipo KAL Hotel

After wandering around Seogwipo all day, I realized it was well past lunchtime. My stomach was growling, so I searched for restaurants near the Seogwipo KAL Hotel and stumbled upon a highly-rated black pork restaurant. It's called 'Meokgojeong,' and the reviews were all so positive that I decided to head there right away.
Meokgojeong is conveniently located near the Seogwipo KAL Hotel in the city center. It was easy to find, and there were many attractions nearby, such as the Olle Market and Cheonjiyeon Waterfall.
I parked in the public parking lot right next to the restaurant. It was nice not having to worry about parking fees, and they even provided a parking voucher with the meal.
The restaurant was surprisingly spacious with plenty of tables and a high ceiling, so it didn't feel cramped at all. The place was also very clean and organized.
I sat down and looked at the menu. This restaurant specializes in Jeju black pork, cut into thick, cube-like pieces. They had other options, but black pork was definitely the main attraction.
After ordering, the table setting began. A variety of side dishes were served, including kimchi, bean sprouts, seasoned green onions, pickled water parsley, and washed kimchi, all in stainless steel bowls. Of course, they also had *meljeot* (fermented anchovy sauce). You could tell they put a lot of care into preparing everything.
I noticed a self-service bar with various쌈채소 (ssam vegetables) and sauces. They encouraged us to take what we needed. It was convenient to be able to grab extra lettuce or perilla leaves whenever we wanted.
The staff started setting up a charcoal brazier on the table. The atmosphere immediately livened up as the fire started. Many places use gas stoves these days, so seeing real charcoal made me look forward to the taste of the meat even more.
Soon after, the staff showed us the raw meat. I think they wanted us to check the marbling. The cross-section, with its perfect blend of fat and lean meat, looked like a high-quality cut. The color was also the deep, rich shade characteristic of Jeju black pork.
The partially grilled pork was then served on a plate. The thick-cut pork belly was presented with zucchini and king oyster mushrooms, which made my mouth water. The slightly grilled surface had a delicious golden-brown color.
The staff placed the meat on the charcoal grill and started grilling it for us. They handled everything from the initial grilling to the final cooking, so we could just sit back and relax.
While the meat was grilling, I ordered kimchi stew. The kimchi stew arrived in a tin pot, and the aroma of ripe kimchi was amazing. One spoonful revealed a refreshing and clean taste. The broth was infused with black pork, giving it a rich, savory flavor.
The atmosphere was great, and the meat was grilling perfectly, so I made a *somaek* (soju and beer mix) and took a sip. It was daytime, but it's okay since I'm on vacation. The cold somaek made me feel so much better.
The meat was perfectly cooked. I first tried a piece of pork shoulder dipped lightly in salt. The juices exploded in my mouth, bringing out the natural flavor of the meat. The charcoal grilling gave it a subtle smoky aroma, with a crispy exterior and a juicy interior.
Next, I took a piece of meat, placed it on a piece of washed kimchi, and dipped it generously in *meljeot*. It was heavenly! The refreshing taste of the washed kimchi enhanced the flavor of the meat, and the salty, savory *meljeot* created a fantastic combination.
While eating the meat, I also ordered *yeolmu* noodles (young radish kimchi noodles). One bite of the cold broth, chewy noodles, and crunchy *yeolmu* kimchi instantly refreshed my palate. If you ever visit this restaurant, I highly recommend the *yeolmu* noodles!
I also enjoyed spoonfuls of the egg stew throughout the meal. The soft and moist egg stew was perfect for cleansing the palate between bites of meat. It wasn't too salty, so I could enjoy it without feeling overwhelmed.
The quality of the meat was excellent, the staff provided convenient grilling service, and the taste of the charcoal-grilled black pork was truly the best. The combination of washed kimchi and *meljeot* is unforgettable. I'll definitely visit again next time I'm in Seogwipo. If you're staying near the KAL Hotel, I highly recommend giving this place a try!
