A Culinary Trip to Daebudo: Discovering Hidden Gems

Recently, I went on a trip to Daebudo Island with my friends and had the chance to visit some amazing restaurants.
I'd like to introduce you to some places where I enjoyed not only the deep flavors of Korean noodle soup (Kal-guksu) but also refreshing Makgeolli (Korean rice wine) served as a complimentary treat.
1. Myeongdong Kalguksu
Clam Kalguksu: 10,000 KRW / Clam Kaljebi: 11,000 KRW
Address: 20, Gubong-gil, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do
Hours: 08:00 - 21:00 (Closed on Tuesdays)
Myeongdong Kalguksu, which I visited that day, was just a 5-minute drive from Bangameori Beach.
The bright yellow sign was easily visible from afar, so we spotted it right away.
There's a spacious parking lot in front of the restaurant, making it easy to drive there.
Note that the restaurant is open from 8 AM to 9 PM daily, and closed on Tuesdays.
It's a well-known restaurant that has been featured on TV, so it was constantly bustling with people.
Plus, it's officially recognized as a 맛집 (delicious restaurant) in Ansan, which made me trust the food even more.
Inside, it was much larger and cleaner than I expected.
There were plenty of tables and group seating available, making it great for dining with a larger party.
As expected of a Kalguksu 맛집 in Daebudo, a large poster explaining the food was displayed.
From the origins of Daebudo clam Kalguksu to the story of the restaurant passed down through generations, it was all very interesting.
After taking our seats, we looked at the large menu board.
There were many options, but we ordered Kaljebi (a mix of Kalguksu noodles and Sujebi dumplings) and seafood pancake (Haemul Pajeon), which we had in mind.
While chatting, our main dishes and side dishes were served.
The food was made right after we ordered, and the generous portions made my mouth water.
The side dishes included two types of homemade kimchi.
The cabbage kimchi had a refreshing taste and was moderately spicy, making it the perfect side dish.
The owner said that they use vegetables grown directly on their farm to make the kimchi.
The radish kimchi (Yeolmu Kimchi) is a signature dish of this Kalguksu 맛집.
It was crunchy and had a refreshing flavor, making it an amazing combination with the Kalguksu.
In addition, a pitcher of Makgeolli was provided free of charge.
The portion was generous, making it great to enjoy with the meal, and additional orders were very affordable at 3,000 KRW.
Next, the main dish, clam Kaljebi, was served in abundance.
The generous portion filled to the brim in a large bowl was impressive.
Since it was Kaljebi, it contained both chewy Kalguksu noodles and chewy Sujebi dumplings.
The broth, made with plenty of clams, looked so delicious that I wanted to try it right away.
I mixed in the seaweed flakes and took a bite.
The broth was rich and refreshing, thanks to the fresh clams and sweet vegetables.
The handmade noodles had a unique shape.
They were chewy and absorbed the broth well, making me exclaim with delight.
Eating it with Yeolmu Kimchi,
the sour taste burst with every bite, creating a fantastic combination with the savory and clean Kalguksu.
Here's the visual of Haemul Pajeon, another 별미 (special delicacy) of this Kalguksu 맛집.
It was much larger and thicker than I expected.
I cut it into bite-sized pieces and picked one up, and it was very heavy.
Looking at the cross-section, it was filled with plenty of seafood, making me think it was great value for the price.
I dipped it in the spicy soy sauce that was served with it.
The spicy soy sauce made it enjoyable without being too greasy.
I was so satisfied with this place that I went back the next day for a hangover cure.
I ordered the fresh rockfish spicy stew (Saeng Ureok Maeuntang), and they caught two rockfish from the tank and cooked them right away.
The portion and the ingredients were generous, which was very satisfying.
I took a sip of the broth, and it was so rich and deep that I was amazed.
The fish was well-cooked, making it refreshing and relieving my hangover.
The fish meat was thick, making it fun to pick off the bones.
I could have easily finished a bowl of rice with just this.
The spicy stew also contained plenty of large Sujebi dumplings.
Eating it with the spicy broth was a new experience, and I couldn't stop using my spoon.
And when you order the spicy stew, they provide grilled mackerel pike (Kkongchi Gui).
The well-grilled mackerel pike had a rich, savory flavor.
I found a satisfying restaurant after a long time and visited it for two days in a row.
From the clam Kaljebi to the spicy stew, everything was delicious, and I want to bring my family to this Daebudo Kalguksu 맛집.

Address: 848, Daebuhwanggeum-ro, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do
Hours: 09:00 - 20:00
The next day, I went to a restaurant famous for its ox bone soup (Somsseori Gukbap) and spicy cod noodles (Kodari Naengmyeon).
The thinly sliced beef (Yukjeon) was moist and tender with a savory flavor.
The spicy and sweet Kodari Bibim Naengmyeon was a perfect combination of chewy noodles and tangy sauce.
3. Daebu Corn Steamed Buns
Corn Steamed Buns (5pcs): 5,000 KRW
Address: 275, Daeseon-ro, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do

The moderately sweet red bean paste had a rich flavor.

Address: 57, Gubongtown-gil, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do 1st and 2nd floor
Hours: 11:00 - 19:30
I also visited Balida, the most popular cafe in Daebudo.
The Balinese-style interior and refreshing ocean view were charming.
Spending time outdoors enjoying the scenery was healing in itself.
5. Baeteojineun Jip
Clam Kalguksu: 8,000 KRW
Address: 6, Gubong-gil, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do
Hours: 09:30 - 20:30
On the last day, I went to Baeteojineun Jip for Kalguksu.
The fresh seafood and deep broth were full of the flavors of the sea.
The crispy seafood pancake and free unlimited Dongdongju (another type of Korean rice wine) made it a great value.
