A Culinary Journey Through Jeju: Discovering Hidden Gems

Before my trip, I kept seeing Amae Black Pork, a Jeju Dream Tower 맛집 (delicious restaurant), popping up on social media. The photos of the pork looked so delicious that my husband and I decided to go there for dinner.
In conclusion, choosing this local restaurant with over 20 years of history was a perfect decision.
1. Amae Black Pork
Address: 15, Singwang-ro 10-gil, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
Operating Hours: Daily 10:00 - 22:00
Menu: Black Pork Belly 200g KRW 21,000 / Black Pork Shoulder 200g KRW 21,000 / Seafood Stew KRW 12,000 / Kimchi Stew KRW 9,000
It was easy to find as it's located in an alley right across from the Maison Glad Hotel and Shilla Duty Free. I was worried about parking because it's a popular tourist area, but there was parking space for about three cars in front of the restaurant, which was convenient.
Inside, the seating was spacious enough for large groups or company dinners. The warm lighting in the large and pleasant space created a cozy atmosphere, and there were many families visiting.
The menu mainly features black pork, but there's also a variety of meal options like cold noodles and seafood stew.
The Black Pork Belly had a great balance of lean meat and fat, with a thick and glossy appearance. The color was vibrant, indicating the high quality of the meat, and it looked incredibly fresh.
The Black Pork Shoulder had a firm texture and a slightly reddish hue, and it was thickly sliced, making it juicy. As expected from a Jeju Dream Tower 맛집, it wasn't overly greasy, making it enjoyable to eat.
Eight side dishes were served, all homemade at the Jeju Dream Tower 맛집, which made them feel special.
As the grill heated up, we also placed the mel젓 (fermented anchovy sauce) on it. The aroma of the simmering mel젓 spread subtly. The combination of that aroma and the smell of the meat instantly stimulated my appetite.
The first side dish I tried was the fluffy and slightly sweet rolled omelet. It was a perfect balance when eaten between bites of meat, and the soft texture cleansed my palate.
The acorn jelly salad was seasoned with a spicy and sweet sauce and had a chewy texture. It helped cut through the richness, and each side dish was well-prepared to complement the meat.
The sizzling sound of the meat cooking on the grill, along with the savory aroma, was wonderful.
The staff at the Jeju Dream Tower 맛집 came and cut the meat perfectly, and they grilled it carefully, which was very convenient. The thickness of the black pork was consistent, so it didn't burn while cooking, and the juices were well-preserved.
The cut meat was neatly arranged in a row and grilled crispy on both sides, resulting in a perfect combination of crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Dipping it in the warm mel젓 enhanced the flavor of the black pork even more. The salty and rich flavor of the mel젓 combined with the meat created an explosion of umami, delivering a heavenly taste.
This time, I wrapped it in a radish wrap and lettuce, which gave it a refreshing and clean finish. The freshness of the vegetable wrap filled my mouth, making me look forward to the next piece of black pork.
The kimchi stew, which was served as a side dish, was packed with ingredients and had a tangy and rich flavor that paired well with the black pork.
Inside the stew, there was also black pork, which added a spicy and savory flavor. I kept reaching for my spoon, and the oil from the meat seeped into the broth, making it even richer.
The seafood stew was filled with various seafood such as crab, clams, and squid. The aroma of the sea from the stew stimulated my appetite, and the broth was refreshing.
The crab was full of meat, and the moment I tore off a leg, the sweetness of the fresh seafood melted in my mouth.
The broth, infused with the flavors of the seafood, was refreshing and spicy, cleansing my palate. The spicy and clean taste went well with rice, making it a perfect ending to the meal.
Lastly, I put a generous amount of scallions on top and ate it with the meat, and the fragrant scallion flavor created a harmonious blend.
Dipping it in sesame oil enhanced the savory flavor of the juices, making it truly flavorful.
Dipping it in the spicy and savory ssamjang (Korean spicy dipping sauce) was also another delight. The salty and sweet taste paired perfectly with the meat. It was a Jeju Dream Tower 맛집 where I could enjoy every last bite without getting tired of it.

I visited Dajeongine to pack some kimbap to eat on the go. There was a wide variety of kimbap, so it was great to choose according to my preference. The anchovy chili kimbap was a kick with its salty anchovies and spicy chili.
3. Olle Guksu Main Branch
Address: 24, Gwiarang-gil, Jeju-si, Jeju-do
Operating Hours: 08:00 ~ 15:00 / Closed every Sunday

I visited Olle Guksu because I thought of pork noodle soup when I thought of Jeju Island. Pork noodle soup can sometimes be too rich to finish, but this place was clean and not greasy, so I could see why it was so popular.
4. Sigolgil

Operating Hours: 10:30 ~ 20:30 / Closed every Saturday and Sunday
Menu: Stir-fried Octopus (Large, 3 servings) KRW 36,000
I visited Sigolgil, where even the locals wait in line to eat. I was surprised by the spicy-looking stir-fried octopus, and when I tried the cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), it was very savory. The seasoning was spicy and stimulating, which made me feel like my stress was relieved.

I waited in line from the morning to eat at Woojin Haejangguk, a well-known 맛집. Eating the savory and rich bracken hangover soup made for a hearty breakfast. There was also a large parking lot, so it was nice to be able to wait in the car.
