Mysterious appearance

On the last day of my Jeju trip, I wanted to have a proper meal before heading to the airport. I felt like trying something new, something I hadn't eaten before, so I started searching.

While scrolling through Instagram, I stumbled upon a captivating photo of artful plating and was immediately drawn in. After a quick search, I discovered it was a local Seogwipo restaurant in Donghong-dong.

The unique concept of 'aged with Hwangchil' was new to me, and the idea of Western cuisine using local Jeju ingredients was intriguing. I eagerly started the car.

1. Dudley Steak House

Address: 4, Donghongro 99beon-gil, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do (1st and 2nd floor)

Hours: Daily 11:00 - 23:00 (Last Order 22:00)

Menu Highlights: Crown Shrimp Cream Pasta, Hwangchil-Aged Tenderloin Steak (Single), Black Pork Shoulder Steak, Jeju Black Pork BBQ, House Salad

Dudley Steak House captures the essence of Jeju's scenery in each dish, creating a memorable culinary experience.

Located in the heart of Donghong-dong, it's easily accessible after shopping at Olle Market. The space harmoniously blends Jeju's relaxed atmosphere with sophisticated elegance.

Ample parking is available in front of the building, a significant advantage since renting a car is essential for exploring Jeju.

A wall filled with a wine collection caught my eye. It seemed like the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Wine enthusiasts will find it a paradise, with a wide selection of bottles at various price points in the wine cellar.

From the moment I entered, the carefully arranged decorations were striking, and the staff's warm smiles made the atmosphere even more welcoming. The spacious table arrangement allowed for comfortable conversations without feeling crowded.

The menu revealed that this was no ordinary Western restaurant. It featured unique local ingredients like Hwangchil-aged steak and crown shrimp pasta. We chose the Hwangchil-Aged Tenderloin Steak, Crown Shrimp Cream Pasta, Black Pork Shoulder Steak, Jeju Black Pork BBQ, and House Salad.

They were running a promotion where you could receive a free ade by writing a Naver receipt review. A small perk, but a welcome bonus.

I loved the simple bread served before the meal. It was perfect for staving off hunger before the main courses arrived.

The salad was a work of art with its vibrant colors. The dressing was perfectly balanced, and each bite was a burst of sweetness from the fruit and a refreshing tang from the sauce.

Jeju tangerines hidden in the salad added a burst of freshness with every bite. Olives, tomatoes, and boiled eggs added balance, creating a delightful start to the meal.

The Black Pork Shoulder Steak had a smoky flavor on the surface and was incredibly juicy inside. The crispy exterior and tender interior created a delightful contrast. The more I chewed, the more intense the meat's flavor became. The accompanying fries and vegetable garnish were perfect for cleansing the palate.

The salad and fries served with the meat added to the fun of choosing what to eat.

Dipping the steak in the steak sauce released a burst of juices and a subtle umami flavor.

The Hwangchil-Aged Steak was perfectly seared on the outside to seal in the juices, while the inside was tender and easily fell apart with a gentle touch of a fork. The unique aroma of Hwangchil aging elevated the meat's flavor to a new level.

Despite its thickness, the steak was incredibly tender. It was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, with the juices still intact.

One of the restaurant's signature items is the Jeju-style steak sauce made with carrots. The subtle sweetness and savory flavor created a harmonious blend. Dipping the steak in the carrot sauce created a completely different flavor profile.

A touch of wasabi added a surprising fusion twist.

Impressed by the wine collection, we ordered a recommended red wine. It had a full body and a pleasant, subtle astringency.

The Crown Shrimp Cream Pasta had layers of creamy richness and sweet shrimp flavor. The seasoning was perfect, and I finished every last strand.

The noodles were perfectly al dente, maintaining a chewy texture, and the rich cream sauce clung evenly to each strand, making it both smooth and satisfying.

The Jeju Black Pork BBQ arrived sizzling on a hot plate with scallions, stimulating the appetite with its sound alone.

The perfectly sliced pork was tender and melted in my mouth.

The fat content was just right, making it not too heavy. The cartilage added a pleasant texture.

Eating it with a generous portion of scallions provided a refreshing contrast to the richness. The combination of Western cuisine with Korean flavors showcased the restaurant's unique personality.

Experiencing Western cuisine made with local Jeju ingredients in a space that combines formality and comfort exceeded my expectations. If you want to taste the unique and harmonious flavors created by the combination of Jeju ingredients and Western cooking techniques, be sure to visit this local Seogwipo restaurant.

2. Oneujeong Kimbap

Hours: 09:00 - 19:00 (Break Time 13:00 - 14:30), Closed every Sunday

Menu: Oneujeong Kimbap

Oneujeong Kimbap is a must-try in Jeju, and there's a reason why phone reservations are essential. It may look ordinary, but the fried tofu adds an explosion of sweet and savory umami. Once you taste it, you won't forget its addictive flavor. The rice is perfectly sticky, making it a delight to chew.

3. Jungmun Suduri Abalone Noodle Soup

Address: 192, Cheonjeyeon-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do (1st floor)

Hours: 08:00 - 16:30 (Last Order 16:00), Closed every Tuesday

Menu: Suduri Abalone Noodle Soup

If you want to taste the deep flavors of the Jeju sea, I recommend Jungmun Suduri Abalone Noodle Soup. The milky green broth is visually appealing. It's packed with abalone, making the broth refreshing and rich. It's savory and clean, without any fishy taste.

4. Shimpyo (쉼표) Cafe

Address: 359, Hallim-ro, Hallim-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do

Hours: 09:00 - 20:00 (Last Order 20:00)

Menu: Americano

If you want to relax while enjoying beautiful scenery, come to Shimpyo Cafe. Known for its ocean view, the blue sea visible through the large windows is stunning. I recommend visiting at sunset and trying their signature Dolce Latte with a sweet pastry.

5. Ujin Haejangguk

Address: 11, Seosa-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do

Hours: 06:00 - 22:00, Closed every Tuesday

Menu: Bracken Hangover Stew

Ujin Haejangguk is a traditional Jeju hangover stew restaurant that's worth the wait. I ordered the bracken stew, and the thick, rich broth was impressive. It's packed with bracken, which is tender and flavorful, and the meaty broth is incredibly soothing.
