A Culinary Journey in Jeju: Discovering Local Flavors and Scenic Delights

To savor the last vestiges of autumn before winter's arrival, I embarked on a trip to Jeju Island with my family. Our first stop was a local restaurant renowned for its hairtail dishes and diverse array of fresh stone pot rice.
Having visited before, we trust the quality here. This restaurant in the Jungmun Tourist Complex is also perfectly suited for solo diners with its one-person menu, which is why I'm excited to share it with you.
Restaurant: Jungmun Garam Stone Pot Rice
Address: 332 Jungmungwangwang-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do
Hours: Daily 08:30 - 21:00 (Break time 16:00-17:00, Last order 20:00)
Popular Dishes: Grilled Whole Hairtail Set - 95,000 KRW, Braised Hairtail Set - 95,000 KRW
Located near the Jungmun Tourist Complex, the restaurant is easily accessible. Its proximity to many tourist attractions makes it ideal after a day of sightseeing. With plenty of accommodations nearby, it's convenient for everyone.
The large, dedicated parking area eliminates any parking concerns, making it easy to drive there.
Inside, I was immediately drawn to the welcoming atmosphere of the spacious hall. Its considerable size makes it suitable for group gatherings, and the generous spacing between tables ensures a comfortable dining experience. They even have high chairs for children.
We chose our dishes from the menu, opting for the popular grilled hairtail, braised hairtail, and a variety of stone pot rice options.
Soon, an array of side dishes appeared. From seasoned vegetables to kimchi and salad, everything was impeccably prepared. The crisp salad was particularly refreshing.
The spicy and tangy cucumber salad was another standout, perfectly balancing spiciness, sourness, and the crispness of the cucumber.
The stir-fried anchovies were a hit with everyone, boasting a savory and perfectly balanced flavor that was subtly sweet. The crunchy nuts added a delightful texture.
We even enjoyed kimchi pancakes – crispy yet filled with flavorful kimchi. They weren't too greasy, which made them even more enjoyable.
Finally, the grilled hairtail arrived. The whole hairtail, grilled to perfection, had incredibly tender and flaky meat that was addictive.
The staff expertly debone the fish for you, making it easy to enjoy. The deboning process itself was quite fascinating. It was savory and mild, appealing to all palates.
The thick, juicy pieces of fish were a delight to eat, melting in my mouth with a clean finish that earned rave reviews.
The fish was incredibly fresh, with no fishy taste. The texture was smooth and tender, making it a complete culinary experience.
Next, we tried the sea urchin and abalone stone pot rice. The rich sea urchin imparted a deep, savory flavor.
The creamy sea urchin flavor permeated the rice, creating a harmonious blend. The fragrant sea urchin enhanced the overall taste.
Perfectly seasoned, it was universally appealing. The addition of chewy abalone kept things interesting.
Adding kimchi provided a delightful crunch and a refreshing contrast, leading to continuous enjoyment.
The abalone stone pot rice offered a different charm. Generous portions of savory abalone infused the dish with a deep sea aroma.
Mixing it with the provided sauce enhanced the flavors. The combination of fluffy rice and chewy abalone was exceptional.
Even with a generous mouthful, there was no fishiness. The tender abalone made it irresistible.
Lastly, we enjoyed the grilled hairtail as a palate cleanser. A bite of the savory grilled hairtail followed by a spoonful of the fluffy stone pot rice felt like paradise.
We finished with scorched rice with hot water. The broth cleansed the palate, leaving a lasting impression.
The savory scorched rice was the perfect ending, mild and easy to enjoy. It was a hit with the kids, and it's easy to see why this restaurant has been featured on numerous broadcasts.
I'm already looking forward to bringing my parents here.
