A Culinary Adventure in Jeju: The Famous Buttumak Restaurant

During my trip to Jeju, I visited a well-known restaurant in Seongup Folk Village, Buttumak. From the basic side dishes to the delicious grilled hairtail fish, I enjoyed a hearty meal.
The hairtail stew, which can only be tasted in Jeju, is a must-try. Mixing it with rice in the spicy and savory broth was a perfect match. Plus, the generous portions of the fish made it even better.
Buttumak Restaurant, famous for its fish stew, is located at 24 Seoseongil-ro, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo, Jeju. It was easy to find and had convenient parking right next to the road.
As soon as you enter from the road, you'll find the parking lot. It's really convenient for parking since it's right next to the road. The restaurant is located on the first floor, and there's a convenience store nearby, making it easy to grab snacks after dinner.
The interior has a spacious and clean layout. The front is made up of windows, providing a sense of openness. The wide hall structure felt comfortable, and the spacing between tables was generous.
As a fish stew specialty restaurant, the menu is simple. The main dishes are hairtail stew and grilled hairtail, which are served together, eliminating the need to choose between the two. Other options include grilled red tilefish, mackerel, and stir-fried dishes.
Each table is equipped with a gas burner, allowing you to enjoy the stew right at your table. We decided to order the hairtail stew and grill set without hesitation because you have to try both!
The basic side dishes are neat and consist of eight different items. Initially, I thought they were the same, but upon closer inspection, I realized they were different. If you run low on side dishes, they refill them for you.
Finally, our order arrived. A large pot with big pieces of hairtail was served, and we could cook it right at the table, keeping it warm until the end.
The grilled hairtail was also served, perfectly cooked without any blemishes. Everyone at the table applauded its presentation. They even took the bones out for us, making it easy to eat.
The rich and tender texture of the hairtail stew melted in my mouth, with no fishy taste at all. It was so delicious that I quickly finished a bowl of rice.
For just around 60,000 won, enjoying both the hairtail stew and grill is an incredible value, especially considering that just the grilled fish usually costs over 100,000 won. The basic side dishes were tasty, and the main dishes were exceptional.
Visiting this old restaurant in Seongup Folk Village was a great decision. It allowed me to enjoy a delicious meal without breaking the bank. If you're planning to try hairtail stew or grilled hairtail during your Jeju trip, Buttumak Restaurant is a fantastic option!
