A Culinary Adventure at Shinin Chinese Restaurant in Bongdam 2 District

Today, I'm sharing my lunch experience at Shinin Chinese Restaurant (신인반점), a well-known eatery in the Bongdam 2 district. While there are many Chinese restaurants nearby, Shinin has already gained popularity for its clean interior and unique Jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) flavor. I ordered the Nakji Jjamppong (Octopus Jjamppong), and the sight of a whole octopus immediately impressed me.

Location & Exterior
The restaurant is located on the first floor at 3-19, Jangdeung 1-gil, Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do. It was easy to find, occupying a large space on the first floor of a brick building. The orange awning made it even more noticeable. The clean and bright exterior gave me a great first impression.
There is a dedicated parking lot.
Ambiance
Upon entering, I was greeted by a spacious and bright interior. The large windows allowed plenty of sunlight, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. The tables were spaced generously, making it comfortable for solo diners and large groups alike. The clean decor and bright lighting contributed to an overall refreshing experience.
Side Dishes & Service
As soon as I sat down, I was served complimentary side dishes and two fried dumplings. The small plates contained kimchi and pickled radish, and the crispy fried dumplings were a perfect appetizer.
They were seasoned with a savory and slightly spicy sauce, which was quite delicious. These small gestures significantly enhance the dining experience.
Nakji Jjamppong (₩11,000)
Finally, the star of the show, the Nakji Jjamppong, arrived. The sight of a whole octopus atop the vibrant red broth in a large bowl immediately elicited a "wow." Cutting the octopus with scissors was fun, and its texture was both chewy and fresh.
The greatest feature of Shinin Chinese Restaurant's Jjamppong!
The soup base can be selected between ‘meat broth base’ and ‘seafood broth base’ when ordering.
Meat Broth Base: A rich, thick, and flavorful style. It has a spicy kick and a heavy, substantial feel.
Seafood Broth Base: A clean and clear flavor. Perfect for those who prefer a refreshing and light soup.
The Jjamppong soup was clear, refreshing, and incredibly soothing. It was spicy but not overpowering, making me want to keep eating. The noodles were chewy and perfectly complemented the soup, and the portion size was generous. The large octopus pieces made it incredibly satisfying to chew.
Price & Satisfaction
The Nakji Jjamppong cost ₩11,000, which I found reasonable considering the quality and quantity. The whole octopus and the option to choose the soup base set it apart from other Chinese restaurants in Bongdam.
Overall Impression
My visit to Shinin Chinese Restaurant in Bongdam 2 district was a delightful experience thanks to the friendly owner, clean atmosphere, complimentary dumplings, and the unique soup base selection system. I definitely want to try their other dishes, like Jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles) and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), in the future.
