Controversy Surrounds Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in Korea

Reporter Jebu reports that attendees of a breast cancer awareness campaign donned glamorous dresses and tuxedos, with some opting for outfits that boldly revealed skin. In particular, dresses with deeply plunging necklines drew criticism for allegedly lacking consideration for patients, despite the campaign's aim to raise awareness for breast cancer. Furthermore, dissatisfaction arose from the absence of participants incorporating the 'pink ribbon,' an international symbol of breast cancer awareness.
Following the criticism, the organizer, 'W KOREA,' posted an apology on its official Instagram on October 19th. They stated that they were taking the criticism of the campaign's inappropriate content seriously, saying, 'We sincerely apologize for causing discomfort due to a lack of consideration for breast cancer patients and their families.' The posts showing the event from that day were all made private along with the apology.
Criticism of the attendees' attire continues even after the official apology. Among them, aespa member Giselle's (24) black dress has drawn many comments online saying, 'It's not appropriate for the occasion.'
A fashion writer explains, 'Giselle wore what appeared to be a tank dress from the Spanish luxury brand LOEWE. However, it was criticized as inappropriate attire because it fully exposed her thighs and had a length so short that it could have been revealing. There have been suggestions that the dress was deliberately shortened to maximize exposure, as the commercially available version has a longer length.'
A reporter from a major international news desk says, 'Giselle was also seen staggering as she returned from the after-party, possibly intoxicated. Online, many expressed concern, wondering if she was drunk.' It seems the participants tried their best to liven up the 20th-anniversary event, dressing up and showing fans a side of themselves enjoying drinks, but this time it backfired. Hopefully, next year's event will be a charity event that aligns with its purpose.
