Choi Yeon-soo, Daughter of Chef Choi Hyun-seok, Reveals Reason for Marrying Kim Tae-hyun, 12 Years Her Senior

Model Choi Yeon-soo (26) candidly shared the story behind her marriage to her husband, Kim Tae-hyun (38), a member of the band DickPunks, and offered practical advice.
She is also well-known as the daughter of chef Choi Hyun-seok.
"If someone twelve years older than me asked me to marry them, I would have run away too."
Recently, Choi Yeon-soo had a Q&A session with fans on social media. When a fan shared their concern that their girlfriend seemed unwilling to marry despite being in a relationship with a twelve-year age gap, Choi Yeon-soo gave an honest answer.
She laughed and said, "Honestly, it's natural not to want to get married. If someone twelve years older kept pushing for marriage, I would have run away too."
She then recalled, "That's why we dated for five and a half years. At first, we didn't talk about marriage and just enjoyed each other's company."
She revealed that she was the one who eventually proposed, saying, "He treated me so well. Despite the twelve-year age difference, I thought there would be a lot I would have to give up, so I decided to do my best."
"He treated me like a princess."
Choi Yeon-soo shared stories from her dating days with Kim Tae-hyun, drawing attention.
"On his days off, he would wait for me to finish work and pick me up, take me to eat whatever I wanted, and take me on trips to see different things," she said.
"He really treated me like a princess, so I decided to marry him," she confessed.
However, their relationship wasn't just a 'sweet romance'.
"My parents were against it, and adults said things like, 'He's a thief' and 'The age difference is too big.' There were a lot of malicious comments and harsh words," she revealed.
Despite this, Kim Tae-hyun never expressed any complaints.
"He must have been more upset, but he comforted me, saying, 'I understand why they're against it.' I was really grateful for that."
"Marriage shouldn't be pressure; it should be built on sincerity."
Choi Yeon-soo didn't forget to give practical advice to fans contemplating marriage.
"Don't pressure them to get married; just treat them well. Many couples around me have large age gaps,
but those who were pressured into marriage from above eventually broke up," she said.
When another fan said that her parents were against her relationship with a boyfriend ten years older due to his age and financial status, she carefully responded.
"I think that if there's a big age difference, even if he's not rich, he should have the financial ability and responsibility to take care of me.
He should have a few more years of work experience than me, so he should have some余裕(leeway)."
She continued, "If the age difference is only a year or two, you can work together to save money, but it's different with a ten-year difference."
"If they're against it just because of the age difference, I would say 'do your best,' but if he's someone who can't take responsibility, it's not bad to just date," she honestly advised.
"I hope to be remembered for love, not the age gap."
Finally, she said, "Now that I'm married, I hope there won't be any more talk about the age difference."
"Marriage is not about who says it first, but about how sincerely you care for each other," she conveyed.
Choi Yeon-soo and Kim Tae-hyun got married last month with the blessings of their families and friends.
The two garnered attention as a couple who overcame a 12-year age difference.
Choi Yeon-soo, who is working as a model, also gained recognition by appearing on Mnet's 'Produce 48' in 2018, and has recently been pursuing acting challenges.
"Marriage is not about pressuring, but about waiting."
Like she said, love that grows from sincerity ultimately doesn't waver in the face of time.
