Visiting 47th Street Tea House in Insadong
Hello! Today, I'm sharing my experience at 47th Street Tea House, a large café in Insadong, Jongno, Seoul, known for its traditional desserts. I visited during the summer while exploring Insadong, and it was a great spot to take adults for a treat!
Finding the Café & First Impressions
The exterior of 47th Street Tea House is not very noticeable as it is located on the second floor. We found it by spotting the bingsu sign.
The outdoor terrace is spacious, allowing visitors to enjoy their desserts while watching the Insadong tourists.
A large menu board is displayed outside, featuring many traditional dishes that adults would enjoy.
There’s a staircase leading directly from outside to the café, and there's also an elevator inside the building for convenience!
Interior & Seating Atmosphere
Inside the café, the wooden floors and furniture create a warm atmosphere. The lighting is cozy, and the wooden decor adds to the comfort. I visited on a Monday around 5 PM, and it wasn't too crowded.
The outdoor terrace is popular for enjoying the view while dining. If the weather is nice, I recommend sitting by the window.
There’s a restroom inside the café, making it convenient for guests!
Menu & What We Ordered
Here’s the menu from 47th Street Tea House. We ordered Insadong Red Bean Porridge, Insadong Bingsu, and Chrysanthemum Tea. The prices are a bit higher because it's a tourist spot, but you might consider it just the cost of the seating.
The Chrysanthemum Tea was quite ordinary! I found it a bit weak in flavor.
Traditional Desserts Review
Everyone enjoyed the Insadong Bingsu. Although it is on the pricier side, the quality of the red beans was good, and it wasn't overly sweet.
The bingsu is made with soybean powder, rice cake, and red beans, reminiscent of traditional bingsu. If you enjoy traditional bingsu, I highly recommend ordering it!
The Insadong Red Bean Porridge was also very rich. It wasn’t sweet and had a decent flavor.
As a service, we received mini yakgwa (honey cookies) according to the number of people in our group.
Final Thoughts
That wraps up my review of 47th Street Tea House, a large café in Insadong, known for its traditional desserts. If you're looking for desserts that aren't overly sweet and have a traditional touch, I recommend this place. The prices are a bit high, but considering it's a tourist area, it seems reasonable. I'll be back next time to explore more of Korea's culinary gems!
