Exploring the Historic Hangju Mountain Fortress in Goyang City

Today, I would like to introduce
the historic site representing Goyang City,
Hangju Mountain Fortress.
Hangju Mountain Fortress is located in Deokyang-gu, Goyang City,
on Deokyang Mountain (approximately 124.9m above sea level).
It is a place where you can enjoy a light walk while
experiencing history and nature together.
⚔ The site of the great battle, Hangju Battle, during the Imjin War.
Hangju Mountain Fortress is known as the site
where General Kwon Yul defeated the Japanese army
in the significant battle of 'Hangju Battle' in 1593.
Hangju Battle is considered one of the three major battles
of the Imjin War, alongside the Jinju Battle and the Hansan Battle,
making it an important historical event.
Currently, various memorial facilities commemorating
the history of that time have been established at Hangju Mountain Fortress.
Inside the fortress, there is a shrine called 'Chungjangsa'
which honors General Kwon Yul.
Chungjangsa was built to commemorate the achievements
of General Kwon Yul and serves as a space
to reflect on the historical significance of the Hangju Battle.
As you walk along the trail, you can encounter it naturally.
There are various facilities for historical education and viewing
at Hangju Mountain Fortress.
Notably, there are the Hangju Battle Monument,
the Hangju Battle Memorial Hall,
the Chungui Hall (video education center), and Deokyangjeong.
These facilities allow you to explore the history of the Hangju Battle
and the battle situation at that time.
The memorial hall displays battle-related materials
and weapon models, helping visitors understand
the historical significance of the Hangju Battle.
Near the summit of Hangju Mountain Fortress,
you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Han River
and the surrounding area of Banghwa Bridge.
On clear days, it becomes a popular viewpoint
for many citizens to admire the expansive scenery.
Hangju Mountain Fortress is not very high,
making it a great historical walking course.
As you move along the trail, you can enjoy
historical ruins, views of the Han River,
and forest walks.
This makes it a popular historical and cultural tourism site
for many citizens and visitors in Goyang City.
