Living in the happy city of Sejong, I realized I knew little about the surrounding area. The order and convenience of a planned city made the landscapes of Sejong feel distant and vague. So, I decided to intentionally step outside of Happy City and take a slow walk through Yeongi-myeon.

The journey began with a simple lunch at a local restaurant. The 8,000 won meal was modest, yet it captured the essence of daily life in the area. The unpretentious meal seemed to foreshadow the direction of my journey.

The real adventure started at the Yeongi-myeon Administrative Welfare Center. As I moved away from this point, landscapes that are hard to find in the city began to emerge: fields and rice paddies lining the roads, a small stream flowing beside narrow paths, and the low sounds coming from a cattle shed. Each scene felt natural, as if they had been there for a long time.

The weather was cloudy, and most of the snow that had fallen recently had melted. The fields, still untouched by the full embrace of the season, reflected a tranquility that made the everyday life of Yeongi-myeon feel vivid. The landscape, positioned between winter and spring, was understated and perfectly captured the atmosphere of the place.

As I passed Suwang Elementary School, the village scenery of Yeongi-myeon became clearer. The houses and low walls surrounding the school, along with the fields, evoked images of a rural village rather than a specific location. This familiarity made the scenery feel more like a living space rather than a travel destination.

The narrow paths and humble village views revealed that this was not a space prepared for tourism, but rather a place where someone's life unfolds. The scenery of Yeongi-myeon did not deliberately seek attention, which made me linger longer.

At the end of the road, Yongun Temple quietly nestled into the atmosphere of Yeongi-myeon. It felt more like a space that had spent time with the village than a tourist attraction. Standing in the temple yard and looking around, the character of Yeongi-myeon became clear: it was a small, unpretentious, and unadorned part of Sejong City.

The journey concluded with a cup of tea at a café in Yeongi-myeon. Looking out at the fields and village scenery, I reflected on why this journey was necessary. I realized that simply walking without a tight schedule can be a fulfilling travel experience, even without seeking out special attractions.

Yeongi-myeon is certainly not a glamorous travel destination. It is an ordinary rural village with melted fields, cattle sheds, and narrow roads. Yet, it was precisely this 'ordinariness' that made the journey comfortable. Sometimes, the most unremarkable scenery leaves the most lasting memories, and my day in Yeongi-myeon was such a journey.

Stepping outside the happy city of Sejong, I found that the Yeongi-myeon area invites people to linger in a different way. It is a space that does not rush or consume quickly. Yeongi-myeon revealed another face of Sejong City and inspired me to explore other areas in the future.
