Escaping the Summer Heat: A Quick Hike up Hambaeksan Mountain

To escape the sweltering summer heat, I took a trip to Hambaeksan Mountain. It's known for its shortest hiking trail, which feels like a continuous steep uphill climb. However, during short breaks, the cool and refreshing breeze blowing from the mountain below made me forget the heat.
To reach the summit of Hambaeksan Mountain via the shortest route (1.0 km) in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do, you need to drive up to Manhangjae Pass in Taebaeksan Mountain. From Manhangjae, head towards the Hambaeksan National Training Center; you'll find the entrance to the shortest trail on your left. This is where your hike begins.

Passing Manhangjae towards the National Training Center, you'll see the entrance to the summit on your left. Parking space in front of the entrance is limited, accommodating only 5-10 cars. Safely park on the shoulder of the road and begin your hike.
Walking up the concrete road, you'll see the path to the summit on your right. Go this way!
Hambaeksan Mountain is filled with wildflowers. Admiring them as you ascend makes the climb to the summit seem much faster.

The steep climb begins here.
At the first rest stop on Hambaeksan Mountain, be aware that the slope to the summit is quite challenging.
Looking at Taebaeksan Mountain from Hambaeksan, the ridgeline appears flat. The peak on the right is the summit of Taebaeksan.
Appreciating the beautiful wildflowers while hiking seems to alleviate the fatigue.

The cumulus clouds above the summit look like a turtle! Haha.

Yay! We're at the summit!
Everyone is busy taking photos to commemorate reaching the summit of Hambaeksan. LOL

On the right is the KBS relay tower.

I was able to climb Hambaeksan easily in a short time. While Taebaeksan and Hambaeksan are famous in winter, it seems like a great travel destination in the summer as well, thanks to its cool temperatures.
