The Legendary Im Nansu Ginkgo Trees
The Sejong-ri Ginkgo Tree History Park is home to the most famous pair of ginkgo trees in the city. Known as the 'Im Nansu Ginkgo Trees,' this male and female pair was planted 650 years ago to honor General Im Nansu of the Goryeo Dynasty. Designated as a Natural Monument in 2022, these trees stand majestically in front of Sungmogak Shrine, creating a scene that feels like stepping back in time.
The male tree to the east boasts a magnificent trunk resembling a dragon ascending to the sky, while the female tree to the west grows straight and graceful. Legend says these trees would cry during times of national disaster or celebration. While they are currently just beginning to turn, they are expected to reach their peak golden hue around November 10th. Be cautious when driving here, as the final access road is unpaved.
Deokseong Seowon: Autumn Foliage at the Foot of Wonsusan
