A Walking Journey Through Jeju: Discovering Beauty at a Slower Pace

March of last year.
In Jeju Island.
I ran a half marathon along the coast and walked through the Saryeoni Forest on a rainy day.
I also hiked Mount Hallasan.
This is a story from my trip to Jeju Island last year.
What I realized then:
"Walking while seeing beautiful scenery is truly wonderful."
So,
I planned a trip to walk and enjoy things.
When you drive,
the scenes pass by too quickly.
I wanted to slow down,
take my time, and savor the beauty.
After getting off the plane,
under the hot Jeju sun.
My journey towards the first accommodation began.
The first destination, Iho Tewoo Beach, was an easy 5km distance,
but
walking under the hot sun wasn't easy.
I stopped by a convenience store
and bought a 1+1 drink,
but
in the summer heat of Jeju,
the remaining can quickly became warm.
Then,
I saw a plane.
How romantic!
"Very Jeju-esque."
I only knew about the Iho Tewoo Lighthouse,
I didn't know there was a beach until now.
Hot, but
the sky was clear.
Right next to it was the coastal road.
A common sight.
The romance of running along the beach.
After passing Iho Tewoo Beach,
I started walking along the bike path
towards the remaining 30km.
Thinking about it after the trip,
Besides downtown Jeju,
there didn't seem to be many tall buildings.
The scenery along the coastal road was the best.
You could see the clouds well,
A feeling you can't experience on the mainland.
Like a watercolor painting.
Is this when you use that expression?
It really felt like I was on a trip.
It was so great.
It was too hot though.
I saw a restaurant while walking.
I went in without hesitation.
The charm of travel.
It was good.
The taste was similar to Sanji Haejangguk (Hangover stew)~
The owner asked me,
"Are you walking the Olle Trail?"
That's what it felt like.
It felt like a true Jeju local.
'Thank you for asking.'
"It was my first conversation in Jeju."
And as I walked,
I arrived in Aewol.
The beach in Aewol.
It was so pretty.
Really.
Even the sunlight reflecting on the water.
It was perfect.
I walked all the way to Aewol.
I deserve to be proud of myself.
The reason I came to the Aewol cafe street
was
I watched Noh Hee-young's YouTube video that suddenly popped up on my algorithm
before coming to Jeju.
I wanted to go to the taco place that was featured there,
because I originally like Mexican food,
I had high expectations.
People line up to eat it in Seoul...
I should just keep living in the countryside...
After looking around Aewol,
I could have gone straight to the accommodation,
but
the "Gwakji" beach I saw for the first time was so beautiful.
Although I was tired, I changed the course to the Olle Trail.
I walked a little further.
It was tough at the time,
but
now that I think about it,
I think it was a really good decision.
I think I reached my limit around this point.
I wanted to see the sunset
and go to the accommodation,
but
I was too tired
and headed straight to the accommodation.
The "Tiger House" that I was looking forward to before coming...
Maybe because it was an old house...
As soon as I arrived, a centipede was crawling in my cup...
And there were bugs in the bathroom...
Seeing the bugs,
instead of feeling sentimental,
I was quite disappointed...
Seeing that there was a bug-catching tool,
it must be a frequent occurrence...
I sipped beer alone,
and because I had to walk 37km the next day,
I went to bed early.
I saw so many beautiful things.
It was a happy day.
