A Romantic Stroll Through Naksan Park and Ihwa Mural Village
54 Naksan-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
낙산공원

As the autumn air begins to cool the city, there is no better time to explore the hidden heights of Seoul. Moving beyond the well-trodden paths of Bukchon and Seochon, my partner and I recently took a spontaneous trip to Naksan Park and the adjacent Ihwa Mural Village. Known as the easiest and most accessible of Seoul's four inner mountain wall trails, Naksan offers a unique perspective of the city—swapping the familiar Han River views for a charming, intimate look at Seoul's residential heart.
Whether you're looking for a romantic date spot that "increases the attraction between couples" or simply want to capture the perfect sunset against ancient fortress stones, Naksan Park delivers a dreamlike atmosphere. In this guide, we'll cover essential parking tips, the best terrace cafes, and the artistic corners of Ihwa-dong that make this area a frequent filming location for popular K-dramas.
Getting There: Samseong-dong Public Parking Lot
While you can hike up from Hyehwa or Dongdaemun, using the Samseong-dong Public Parking Lot (삼성동 공영주차장) is a fantastic shortcut. With about 100 spaces and a reasonable fee of ₩1,800 per hour (₩150 per 5 mins), it’s perfectly situated for a comfortable 15-20 minute stroll to the park's peak. Starting from here allows you to reach the best viewpoints quickly, just in time for the golden hour.
A Walk Through History: The Naksan Fortress Wall
The fortress walls here are not just stone structures; they are a timeline of Seoul's history, with different stone shapes indicating the various eras in which they were built. Fans of K-dramas might recognize these walls from "Crash Landing on You." The path is gentle and well-lit, making it an ideal spot for an evening walk even for those who aren't avid hikers.

Artistic Alleys: Ihwa Mural Village and Snail Alley
Connected directly to the park is the Ihwa Mural Village (이화벽화마을). Beyond the famous wall paintings, you'll find the unique "Snail Alley," a structural marvel often featured in movies. While we missed the opening hours of the Odeoksae espresso bar, the area is packed with hidden gems like the Ihwadong Bakery (famous for its olive bread) and Kami, a dessert cafe known for its seasonal treats.
Healing Moments at Terrace Cafes
The highest points along the wall are dotted with charming cafes like Gaeppul, Cafe San 1-1, and Book Reading Cat. Gaeppul is particularly famous for its terrace view. Imagine enjoying a craft beer or a sweet dessert while the city lights begin to flicker on below you—it’s the ultimate way to recharge your spirits after a busy week.
Closing the Day: A Mother's Touch at Yeosu Seodae
For dinner, we ventured into Snail Alley to eat at Yeosu Seodae. The meal felt like a warm, home-cooked experience, providing the perfect "mother's touch" to end our date. As we walked back to the car under the night sky, we couldn't stop exclaiming how "pretty" the atmosphere was. It’s a place that naturally builds charm and attraction, making it my top recommendation for new couples or those in the "flirting" stage.
Tips for Autumn Explorers
If you have extra time, don't miss the Hanyangdoseong Museum near Heunginjimun Park to learn the stories behind the walls. As autumn deepens, the foliage around Naksan will only get more beautiful. Be sure to visit around 5:30 PM to catch both the daylight colors and the sparkling night view.
Naksan and Ihwa Village Gallery
Have you ever watched the sunset from the top of the Naksan Fortress Wall, or do you have a favorite mural in Ihwa Village that you always visit? If you're heading to Jongno this weekend, would you prefer a quiet coffee at Cafe Travel or a lively beer on the terrace at Gaeppul?
