Trendtreat's Guide to Jeonju Hanok Village: A Gift of Trends!

Trendtreat! Your gift of trends!
Today, Trendtreat introduces a hot domestic travel destination:
Jeonju's "Hanok Village" :)
We'll cover everything from how to get to Jeonju Station from Seoul to
must-visit spots in Hanok Village.
<Table of Contents>
1. Getting to Jeonju: KTX vs. SRT
2. Hanok Village Restaurants & Cafes
3. Things to Do in Hanok Village
1. Getting to Jeonju: KTX vs. SRT
KTX departs from Seoul Station, and SRT departs from Suseo Station.
So, naturally, it's best to choose the station that's closer to your home,
but...
I used the SRT this time.
The reason is that it's cheaper than KTX!
KTX (Seoul - Jeonju Station): ₩34,600 one way
SRT (Suseo - Jeonju Station): ₩29,700 one way
Plus, KTX tickets sell out very early,
so if you plan your trip late, SRT might be your only option!
I recommend booking KTX 3 weeks in advance and SRT 1-2 weeks in advance!
Because most travelers want to depart in the morning,
you should book your tickets well in advance.
The interior of the KTX is much cleaner,
but the SRT doesn't have standing tickets,
which is a plus because it doesn't feel crowded. ㅎㅎ
2. Hanok Village Restaurants & Cafes
Jeonju Hanok Village is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from Jeonju Station.
A big advantage of Jeonju is that all the great restaurants and beautiful cafes are
located within Hanok Village!
While Gyeongju Hanok Village is just one alleyway,
Jeonju is closer to a real 'village,' so it's very large.
I'm going to introduce three restaurants and two cafes
that I personally visited and enjoyed.
Restaurant ①
#Veteran Noodles
Although this place is famous with tourists, taxi drivers also
highly recommend this noodle restaurant.
It's filled with perilla seed powder and seaweed flakes, and
the broth is so rich and delicious with egg 풀어서.. oh my gosh..
Instead of flat noodles like regular kalguksu,
the thick noodles are like chewy noodles, so they go down smoothly.
If it suits your taste, it'll be your favorite kalguksu!
It was the most delicious food I ate in Jeonju.
The soymilk noodles are so-so!
It basically contains salt,
so if you're a sugar person, I recommend asking them to leave it out beforehand.
The dumplings are highly recommended!
The skin is really thin and the savory flavor is amazing.
Restaurant ②
#Gyodong Grilled Bulgogi
If you came with your child or lover,
I recommend this bulgogi restaurant for dinner!
Parking: Hanok Village Public Parking Lot
Crispy bulgogi is the signature dish,
It tastes like thin and sweet tteokgalbi!
The yukhoe bibimbap (beef tartare bibimbap) is more tangy than Jeonju bibimbap,
so it goes well with bulgogi.
Although bulgogi is the main dish, it feels like a side dish,
so I recommend ordering bibimbap rather than just rice!
Restaurant ③
#Jeonju Hyundaiok
As essential as bibimbap,
Jeonju Nambu Market-style bean sprout soup!
A characteristic of the Jeonju style is that it is served with poached egg and seaweed.
Interestingly, unlike the Seoul style,
it doesn't come boiling hot, but moderately warm.
It doesn't have squid toppings, just a lot of
bean sprouts and red sesame seeds.
I like hot soup,
so I felt something was missing,
but my friends who went with me raved about how delicious it was.
The seasoning is bland, but it goes perfectly
with seaweed & squid jeotgal (salted seafood).
Cafes to visit during the day
#Cafe1938
An atmospheric cafe where every item is a work of art ☕️
At first glance, it's clear that the owner is running this cafe as a hobby,
every retro item is a gem.
Items for sale / No photography allowed
I tried all three signature drinks, and
wow.. they're all just delicious.
In particular, I highly recommend the milk tea with a strong black tea flavor!
The Maldon Salt Latte is very salty (positive),
and the 1938 Latte has a tiramisu feel.
Cafes to visit at night
#Irri
Because multiple traditional Korean houses are connected,
it's a very beautiful place, especially at night.
Perfect Hanok backgrounds and lighting for your Instagram shots
It's quite spacious and
there are plenty of seats if you come on a weekday.
There are various types of seats, such as Hanok tatami-style, sofa seats, and group seats,
so it's great for visiting with multiple people!
Drinks are at least ₩8,500..
Taste: Let's just ignore it.
Actually, it's really bad.
But if aesthetics are important, I recommend it.
3. Things to Do in Hanok Village
I'll also introduce a few
things to do in Hanok Village!
[Must-Try Street Food]
#Gilgeoriya
YouTuber Pungja picked Gilgeoriya's baguette burger
as the most delicious food in Jeonju!
It's like a croquette filled with stuffing,
it's subtly spicy, and it's as big as your forearm, so you'll feel full.
[Gacha Shop right in front of Gilgeoriya]
#EurachachaJeonju
This place has many rare items, such as a radio gacha that can even record.
Price caution / Non-refundable after issuing exclusive coins
[Jeonju Hanok Village Museum]
#DonghakRevolutionMemorialHall
Jeonju Hanok Village has many museums, such as hat, liquor, and insect museums & Gyeonggijeon Shrine!
I visited here, but I think it would be good to choose
and visit a place that suits your taste.
Admission is mostly free!
If you come with children, I recommend
trying the paid making & experience service.
[Souvenir shop version of Cafe 1938]
#Cafe1938Mansion
This is a souvenir shop that is a 1-minute walk
from the cafe I introduced earlier.
There are no pictures because all photography is prohibited,
but the props and vintage clothes are so pretty, so I highly recommend it⭐️
+ Tips
Jeonju Choco Pie written as PNB is the original!
I tried other brands, but only PNB's
has a bumpy shape as if it was made directly, not in a factory, and
the basic flavor also contains strawberry jam inside :)
