The Grand Finale of the 36th Geochang International Theater Festival

The 36th Geochang International Theater Festival concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony, awards presentation, and a musical gala concert, celebrated with thunderous applause and cheers!
The festival, held at Susungdae from July 31 to August 9, wrapped up its ten-day journey on the 9th. It featured a variety of performances, including competition entries, official presentations, fringe shows, and special events in anticipation of the 2026 Geochang Visit Year.
The final day was filled with excitement as we enjoyed the closing ceremony, awards, and a gala concert. The passion of the actors and the emotional performances left a lasting impression, highlighted by the enthusiastic applause from the audience.
As the sweltering heat subsided, a refreshing breeze made the walk towards Susungdae feel lighter. The water park on the way to the Turtle Theater always seems to be a popular spot.
The Turtle Rock, illuminated at night, sparkled beautifully, showcasing a different charm compared to its daytime appearance.
The closing ceremony tickets were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with 800 tickets available from 5 PM to 6:30 PM. Many eager spectators lined up early, demonstrating their enthusiasm for the event.
With two entrances for convenience, attendees could easily access the Turtle Theater, where the magic of nature intertwined with the performances.
The closing ceremony was hosted by comedian Ahn Sang-tae, who engaged the audience with his wit and humor, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Awards were presented to ten competing teams, showcasing their unique talents:

- Performance Creation Space / Coa, The Lost Things

- Steel Rainbow Theater Company / Mr. Dandan of a Neighborhood Corner
- Pavilion / Old Grapes
- Cultural Arts Cooperative Ai-ya / Suspicious Ritual Day
- Cloud Theater / Overcoat
- Studio Mali Theater Company / The Good Woman of Sanchon
Out of over 50 teams that applied, ten competed in the finals. Each performance was distinct, showcasing the individual charm and messages of the works, captivating the audience's hearts.
Special congratulations to the award winners of the 36th Geochang International Theater Festival. The sweat and passion on stage, along with the performers' energy, have resulted in a rewarding conclusion. We look forward to seeing more amazing works that resonate with a broader audience in the future.
The festival ambassadors, actors Kang Bu-ja and Kim Sung-kyun, added significance to the opening and closing ceremonies with their charming remarks and applause.
On the final night, the mayor of Geochang, Lee Hong-ki, praised the festival's success, noting that over 20,000 attendees enjoyed 78 performances from 50 groups across eight countries. He expressed hopes for the festival to grow into a world-renowned event, like the Avignon Festival in France.
The festival concluded with a vibrant musical gala concert featuring top musical actors, including Shin Young-sook, Cha Ji-yeon, and Min Woo-hyuk, who delivered stunning performances that left a lasting impression.
The evening was filled with laughter and emotion, marking a beautiful end to the festival. Though the Geochang International Theater Festival has ended, its impact and memories will remain in our hearts for a long time. We look forward to another wonderful gathering next year.
