Solo Female Traveler's Guide to Mokpo: A 2-Day Foodie Adventure

A Mokpo Walking Tour for Solo Female Travelers: 1 Night, 2 Days
Hello!
In my previous post, I shared my solo walking tour in Mokpo and my stay at the Cassette Player guesthouse on the first day of my 2-day trip.
The guesthouse is located within walking distance of Mokpo Station, and it’s a fantastic place for a solo female traveler to stay quietly in a private room.
I value the meaning of the places and spaces I visit on my travels. It helps a lot when I remember those places later.
Next, I think about what I ate.
For example, food that you can only eat in that region or local favorite restaurants!
You can't miss that when you travel!
Today, I'm going to share stories about restaurants worth visiting in Mokpo, places where you can dine alone, and coffee shops recommended by locals.
First Day Dinner: Yeongran Raw Fish Restaurant in Minneo (Croaker) Street
Address: 1-5 Manho-dong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do
Finding menus suitable for solo dining while traveling can be more limited than you might think.
Before leaving for Mokpo, I spent a lot of time thinking about what food I should try.
That's where Naver search comes in, right?
After diligently searching for "Mokpo 맛집(delicious restaurant)," "Mokpo local 맛집(delicious restaurant)," "Mokpo native 맛집(delicious restaurant)," "Mokpo 맛집(delicious restaurant) recommendations," etc., I decided to try Minneo (Croaker).
Did you know there is a Minneo Street in Manho-dong, Mokpo, Jeollanam-do?
Minneo (Croaker) is a specialty of Mokpo, and the locals have a deep sense of pride in it.
The reason I chose Minneo dishes for my first meal was that I wanted to experience a food that represents the region. I was also curious about the taste since I had never eaten it before.
Best of all, it was very close to Mokpo Station (2 minutes by car) and within easy reach of the Cassette Player, where I was staying (walking distance).
And it was a place where you could comfortably dine alone with a 1-person menu.
Yeongran Raw Fish Restaurant boasts a long history and tradition of 30 years and has established itself as a gastronomic mecca representing Mokpo.
Their Minneo (Croaker) is served as aged raw fish ( 숙성회 ) that has been aged for about a day or two. It is characterized by its large, thick slices, soft and savory flavor, and the Minneo (Croaker) soup has a refreshing and rich broth.
You can taste the original umami by dipping the Minneo (Croaker) skin, swim bladder, and fins in salt.
If you order half a plate (1-person menu) at the restaurant, you can enjoy all parts of the fish generously.
It's a 맛집(delicious restaurant) with great value for money.
Minneo (Croaker) 회 (raw fish) is also famous as a summer health food, and it is so popular that people come from all over the country.
Don't forget Mokpo's specialty and be sure to try a Minneo (Croaker) course at least once!

Second Day Breakfast: Taedongbanjeom
Address: 223-1 Jukdong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do
The morning in Mokpo has dawned on my 1-night, 2-day solo walking tour.
I was thinking about a restaurant that opens early in the morning and a menu that you can only taste in Mokpo, so I decided to eat the Jungkan Set at Taedongbanjeom.
I wondered if the price had changed since I visited a few years ago, but it's still the same at ₩8,000.
A 맛집(delicious restaurant) with great value for money!
Jungkan is a popular set menu only available at Taedongbanjeom where you can taste three things: Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), Jungkan (thick-sauce Jajangmyeon), and Jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup).
Taedongbanjeom's Jungkan noodles were different from regular Chinese restaurant Jajangmyeon or Ganjajangmyeon.
Should I say they are flatter and thinner?
I felt that the texture was good and the black bean sauce was better absorbed.
The Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) was the taste of my childhood that you can taste at old Chinese restaurants, and the Jjambbong (spicy seafood noodle soup) was plain but spicy and clean.
All the menus were a taste that everyone likes.
The portions are large and the price is not burdensome for solo dining, so it is quite attractive to those who come alone.
Taedongbanjeom seems to be a famous restaurant among locals in Mokpo.
There were quite a few older neighborhood people and many people who came to Mokpo for trip.
I did an open run on a weekday.
Before long, there was a waiting line.
We recommend that you go in advance according to the store's business hours.
Taedongbanjeom has a fast turnover rate, but time is precious.
(Waiting in line on a trip is a luxury!)
Thanks to the open run, I was able to enter quickly without waiting and have a comfortable meal.
(When I came out, there were so many people that I came out without thinking)
Can you see the fried egg on top of the Jungkan?
It reminds me of the Chinese restaurant in front of my house when I was a kid.
I felt like I had come to an old 맛집(delicious restaurant) in my memories.
It's an old restaurant, but the tables are clean and the food is served neatly.

Last Meal of the 2-Day Trip: Kim Jeong-rim Seonji (Ox Blood) Hangover Soup
Address: 4-15 Daeuidong 1(il)-ga, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do
Kim Jeong-rim Seonji (Ox Blood) Hangover Soup is the last meal on a woman's trip that came without fear.
The food in Mokpo was generally delicious.
I don't enjoy gopchang or ox blood, but I think this place is worth recommending.
Office workers and neighborhood people often come to eat.
I visited because the restaurant was on my trip route and the reviews were not bad, but it was a famous 노포 맛집(old delicious restaurant) that was famous among local natives of Mokpo.
It is a place that does a great job of hearty portion and heavy soup 선지 (ox blood) hangover soup.

There was no waiting line on weekdays, but there were many customers, and meals were served quickly, so the turnover rate was fast.
Since it was recently introduced on a broadcasting medium, there is a waiting time, so avoid busy times or recommend an open run!
If you are hungover from drinking the day before, why not go to Kim Jeong-rim Seonji (Ox Blood) Hangover Soup and soothe your stomach with the rich soup?
Kim Jeong-rim's Hangover Soup serves glossy rice, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), seasoned 다대기(spicy sauce), minced green chili peppers, and kimchi as side dishes.
Mix them to your liking.
There is a lot of ox blood and the amount is very generous.

Coffee Shop with a View of the Mokpo Sea: Daebandong 201 Cafe
Address: 465-142 Jukgyo-dong, Mokpo-si, Jeollanam-do
My Mokpo trip is coming to an end.
Daebandong 201 is a cafe recommended by the owner of a small store in front of the hostel where I stayed.
It's a 맛집(delicious restaurant) with a view where you can see the Mokpo Bridge, the sparkling sea, and the marine cable car all in one place.
I walked alone, took taxis, and walked around quite a few places worth visiting in Mokpo, and I had a comfortable meal.
I thought it would be nice to have a delicious drink at a coffee shop with a sea view, and a local in Mokpo recommended a place, so I happily visited!
I drank a glass of cool melon juice while looking at the Mokpo sea.
The store was large, so there was no waiting, and I sat in a pretty good seat because it was a weekday.
I was reading a book and looking at photos of the trip, 맛집(delicious restaurant)s, and 숙소 (lodging)s I visited during the last 1 night and 2 days, and I thought that traveling alone wasn't so bad.

It was a clumsy and eventful 1-night, 2-day solo trip, so I'm a little disappointed, but I think I'll have more leeway on my second trip.
It was great to be able to experience and see so much because I was walking.

How was my first Mokpo walking trip for solo female travelers?
Trips, like life, don't seem to go exactly as planned.
Everyone is a first timer.
That's why I'm looking forward to the future, right?
Even if things don't go as planned, new environments and experiences seem to help us grow.
Why do people travel alone?
I think I understand the meaning of travel a little better now.
Don't hesitate, just leave.
It's okay to be alone!

I'll share a post that you might like to see together. I hope you have an exciting and enjoyable day today, like a day of traveling.
Goodbye.
