Jangheung Papillon Zip: A Cultural Rebirth of an Old Prison

Hello, this is Jangheung Travel.
Today, we'd like to introduce you to <Jangheung Papillon Zip>, a complex cultural space that has been reborn from a closed old prison in Jangheung!
'Papillon Zip' is a name that combines 'Papillon', which means the inherent human desire for freedom, and 'Zip', which means compressing and connecting various functions.
Inside, you'll find 'Cinematic Bookstore (영화로운 책방)', a book cafe-style cultural space created by remodeling the gymnasium.
The brick exterior and warm lighting create a calm yet emotional atmosphere, and you can also browse various exhibits such as movie posters and correctional books.
If you come to the ticket booth, you will find information about fees and a souvenir shop.
Here, you can also rent prison uniforms, allowing you to enjoy a unique and special experience.
Also, Jangheung Zip offers a variety of tour courses. Please note that the prices vary slightly for each course!
The Jangheung Archive exhibits historical materials from the Jangheung Prison from 1975 to 2015, as well as visiting rooms, etc.
In particular, you can see at a glance the changes in the visiting room from the 1950s to the 2000s.
This is 'Naejeongmun', famous as a filming location for prison release scenes.
It is inscribed with the phrase 'Hopeful Correction that Opens a Bright Future', and this was the actual main gate of the old Jangheung Prison.
If the Jangheung Archive Hall is a place that collects records of the Jangheung Prison, this Correctional History Museum contains the history of punishment, the history of changes in prison food, clothing, and shelter, prison life, and examples of correctional facilities.
You can also experience a prison tour using VR and AR technology.
The Correctional History Theme Hall 1, Bricoleur, means "a person who creates and uses new things with what they have."
In prison life, you can only use the items you need, and if you don't have something, you have to creatively make or fix it yourself.
As you go inside, you will see the inside of the detention center.
Everything is preserved as it was in the actual prison, including the old iron doors, corridors, and cold cement floors.
The narrow space seen through the cracks in the doors, the old toilet, and the paint marks on the walls all contain traces of that time.
The playground was the only place where prisoners could look up at the sky.
The wire mesh currently installed in the playground was installed as a set for filming, so it's a good idea to take pictures like a scene from a movie while watching carefully.
Rather than simply touring the prison, why not feel the traces of past prisoners at <Jangheung Papillon Zip> and enjoy a unique experience with your family or lover?
