(The Haenam Cultural Tourism Foundation, hereinafter referred to as the Foundation, has been recognized for its outstanding performance in the evaluation of the Local Tourism Organization (DMO) development support project organized by the Korea Tourism Organization, and has been selected as the 'Excellent DMO (Grade A)' for 2025 and as the extended institution for 2026.
This achievement is based on the final performance evaluation results of the 2025 DMO project. The Foundation has been highly praised for its proactive communication with local residents and tourism-related businesses to address tourism issues and establish a collaborative foundation for DMO operations based on local tourism content.
With this performance evaluation and extension selection, the Foundation will maintain its status as a 'Basic Level 2, Year 4' institution and continue to promote the DMO project for 2026. Accordingly, it plans to receive national funding of 200 million won for two consecutive years to strengthen capabilities for sustainable tourism development and enhance the operation of resident-participatory councils.
Additionally, following this selection, the Foundation will attend a project plan consulting session held at the Korea Tourism Organization's Seoul Center Conference Room, where it will receive advice from the Korea Tourism Organization and external experts regarding project direction, performance goals, and budget appropriateness. The Foundation will incorporate these expert opinions into the finalization of its 2026 business plan.
The Local Tourism Organization (DMO) operates as a collaborative body involving various stakeholders, including local residents and tourism-related businesses, to proactively address tourism issues and enhance regional tourism competitiveness.
Taking this selection as an opportunity, the Foundation plans to activate the 'Haemong Project', a stay-type tourism content reflecting Haenam's unique characteristics, and strengthen local tourism governance to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem.
A Foundation official stated, “Having been recognized for last year's achievements and extending the project, we will do our best to reflect the expert consulting insights and help local tourism stakeholders and Haenam tourism take a step forward.”
Meanwhile, the Foundation plans to finalize the business agreement with the Korea Tourism Organization and complete the funding disbursement process by the end of March, aiming to fully launch the 2026 project by December.
