Address: 536-1, Seokjeong-ri, Yeomchi-eup, Asan-si, Chungcheongnam-do
Located in Seokjeong-ri, Yeomchi-eup, Asan, Gokgyocheon Citizens Sports Park was established in 1996 to promote the health and well-being of Asan citizens and to encourage participation in recreational sports. The Gokgyocheon Stream, which originates in Gwangdeok-myeon, Cheonan, and flows into Asan Bay, passes through Gokgyo-ri, Yeomchi-eup, offering stunning riverside views to visitors. The park spans a vast area of 90,360 square meters and features a variety of sports facilities, including a soccer field, baseball field, badminton court, gateball field, and an inline skating rink. In 2016, an outdoor camping site was added, solidifying the park's position as a beloved recreational space for Asan residents. Open year-round, the park invites everyone to enjoy leisure sports at any time.
As we leave the old downtown area of Asan, the new administrative district of Yeomchi-eup begins. The Gokgyocheon Stream and the surrounding scenery behind the Yeomchi-eup sign come into view at a glance. Leaving the city center, the open sky and wide river create a relaxing atmosphere.
Asan Bridge, which crosses the Gokgyocheon Stream upon entering Yeomchi-eup, proudly displays the Taegeukgi (Korean flag) on both sides of the road, befitting its status as a major bridge named after the city. The view of the Gokgyocheon Stream from the bridge is truly spectacular.
The Gokgyocheon Stream viewed from the bridge is the epitome of tranquility. The clear autumn sky and the vast river create a picturesque scene, fully embodying the essence of autumn. The apartments and urban landscape visible on both sides of the river blend harmoniously with nature, showcasing Asan's development.
The park is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors can take a bus and get off at the Seokjeong 4-ri bus stop. The park is conveniently located right behind the neatly designed bus stop, making it easy to find. This accessibility is a major advantage of Gokgyocheon Citizens Sports Park.
Upon entering the park, a wooden deck walkway along the Gokgyocheon Stream comes into view. The walkway is well-maintained, allowing visitors to enjoy the riverside scenery while strolling along the warm-toned wooden deck.
Walking along the Gokgyocheon Stream, a vast reed field unfolds. The white reeds swaying in the autumn breeze, combined with the river, create a scene reminiscent of a painting. The harmony between the distant Asan Bridge and the reed field is like a small gift of nature found within the city.
The first thing that catches the eye when exploring the park is the baseball field. The large dirt field and the high safety net are impressive. The tall netting, designed to prevent baseballs from flying out, demonstrates that this is a proper sports facility.
Next to the baseball field, there is a seating stand for spectators. The blue and yellow seats blend beautifully with the autumn foliage, and the yellow ginkgo trees in the back enhance the autumn atmosphere.
Sinks are installed throughout the park, allowing visitors to wash their hands or freshen up after exercising. These well-equipped amenities allow citizens to enjoy sports activities more comfortably.
At the entrance of the park, there is a parking lot information sign and ample parking space. The parking lot is made of dirt, but the space is large enough to accommodate visitors even on weekends. The cars parked under the clear autumn sky and the sports facilities in the distance create a leisurely afternoon scene.
A public restroom with a harmonious blend of light green and yellow is located in one area of the park. The bright colors of the exterior blend well with the park atmosphere, and the sight of it harmonizing with the autumn foliage feels warm and inviting.
The badminton court is equipped with a green surface, allowing players to enjoy a proper game. In particular, the surrounding autumn maple trees, colored in red, yellow, and green, add to the fun of exercising and the pleasure of enjoying nature.
On weekends, many citizens enjoy playing soccer on the large soccer field. White goals are installed on both ends, and the sight of people running around on the wide lawn is vibrant. The reed field in the back and the skyline of downtown Asan in the distance create a space where the city and nature coexist.
Walking along the wooden deck walkway that follows the park, ginkgo trees on both sides create a yellow tunnel. Walking under the golden ginkgo trees, illuminated by the autumn sunlight, is a healing experience. Beyond the deck road, you can see the parking lot and various sports facilities.
A green park golf course is located on one side of the park, where many residents come out to enjoy golf and gateball. It is a popular spot for senior citizens, and it is nice to see them enjoying light exercise with friends and taking care of their health in the leisurely afternoon. The scenery of people enjoying exercise against the backdrop of the reed field and the city showcases the unique charm of Gokgyocheon Citizens Sports Park.
