Exploring Tongtong Munbaek Small Library

On sunny days like these, I often find myself longing for a cozy and calm space. Recently, I visited the 'Tongtong Munbaek Small Library' located in Munbaek-myeon, Jincheon-gun.
The name itself, 'Tongtong', is quite adorable, isn't it?
Upon entering, I felt as if I had discovered a secret hideaway that I wanted to keep to myself. While there are many large libraries nowadays, sometimes the comfort of a small library filled with warmth is truly special.
The first thing that caught my eye at the entrance was the colorful Post-it notes left by visitors. It was delightful to read each one.
From children's scribbles to kind words of encouragement from local residents, it was clear how much this space serves as a cherished gathering place for the community.
What stood out the most during my visit was a memorable encounter with an elderly gentleman. I had the opportunity to chat with him and learned that he had spent many years as a school teacher. His passion for teaching children has beautifully transitioned into a love for reading after retirement, which I found truly inspiring. I cautiously asked if we could take a photo together.
He radiated a warm and intellectual aura! To my surprise, he had read every volume of Park Kyung-ri's masterpiece 'Land' at this small library. Hearing that he had completed such a lengthy and substantial work filled me with respect.
The interior of the library is charmingly decorated and cozy.
One of my favorite spots was a long wooden bench. Sitting there, I could bask in the sunlight streaming through the window while comfortably leaning against the bookshelf to read. It felt warm and peaceful.
It's also a great place for children, with many engaging storybooks designed for their reading level.
From educational comics that kids enjoy to picture books that nurture their emotions, there's a variety that can keep them engrossed in reading.
The new arrivals section was well-curated, featuring books on topics like 'Building a House with 100 Million Won' and 'Farming is Good', which seemed to perfectly complement the serene rural scenery of Munbaek-myeon.
There was also a 'Large Print Book Corner' for elderly visitors with vision challenges, featuring books with larger text for easier reading.
The library is equipped with multimedia PCs, making it convenient for searching information or doing document work. I am excited to see what fun activities will be organized for the community in the program room.
The operating hours of Tongtong Munbaek Small Library are from 2 PM to 5 PM, which might feel a bit short. However, I believe this concentrated time allows for a deeper engagement with books.
It’s closed on Sundays and Mondays, so be sure to check the schedule to avoid an unnecessary trip! You can borrow up to 5 books for 10 days, and the library membership is linked with other libraries in Jincheon-gun, making it very convenient to use.
If you want to take a moment to catch your breath in your busy life and feel a warm connection, I highly recommend visiting Tongtong Munbaek Small Library.
